Maybe things look different in the flesh, but it looks like even a 2.4 will be a squeeze.

Agree it is tight. Part of the problem is how far forward the outlet extends. I wonder if the ATP front housings are the same?

I may go and get the front housing machined down so that the three inch portion extends further into the compressor. I will then be able to cut part of the mouth off so that it is further away from the TGV.

perhaps a different comp housing? I have a surplas Blouch housing with a 3inch inlet. I *think* its to suit a dom3? Which I *think* may match a garret 76mm wheel? It doesnt have the sexy anti-surge ports though.

this. looks like what Mamba should have done in the first place. The casting has ample room to extend inwards. Yet they only machined in first 15mm or so. That 3inch diameter cut should go all the way back to the main body of the comp housing. Then it wouldnt need to poke so far forward.

Email Eiji with pics mate I'm sure he has 3 or 4 different designs of the housing depending on what year ej the turbo is going on . Did you let him know the year when ordering the turbo . Some of the designs are specifically for twist mount as well.
Anyway you know how easy he is to deal with he should have a solution for you . Personally when going to a 3inch inlet I think twist mount is the way to go so much easier to work on anything and you keep all the skin on your knuckles . |

I wanted the setup to look somewhat stock as this is in effect a daily driver.
I didn't get a reply back from Eiji as yet which is different to his usual level of prompt service. Not sure if it is a long weekend wherever he is. Will wait to see what he says. It is still a nice product and I would prefer to make a three inch fit rather than swap to a 2.4. It would be to his advantage though to improve his turbo though based on the two that have been fitted in Perth over the past fortnight. |

Anyway...
Today's efforts in overcoming the issues. Went to Ludowichi seals in Canning Vale and bought an assortment of o-rings to suit the Zerolift TGVs since the stock supply ones are a little small in diameter and I wasn't confident that they would sit within the designed grooves. Went to Pirtek and had them braze a right angle male screw fitting on to the factory hard water line that runs across the back of the head to accept the turbo line. Went and had the compressor snout machined off so as to use the larger sand cast inlet area. Bought a silicone adaptor going from 3.25 inch to 3 inch from Turbotech. Next up I will have to work out how much adaptor and AVO inlet I can fit and trim excess and insert a 3 inch metal sleeve to join both. I need to track down a 24mm deep socket to tighten down the oil filter shaft inside the factory oil cooler body. Then complete the remaining re-assembly. Fingers crossed I can solve the remaining issues by this weekend. |
