Good news. All authorised for repair. Very relieved to say the least! Never had to do a claim before. Haven't viewed the quote myself just yet but it is over 10k.

Spoke with RAC, the assessor is going to give me a call tomorrow in regards to my options about who I would prefer the repairer be as I just got off the phone with them and they confirmed I do have a say in the matter.

Keeping in mind their plans are to just remove the engine and send long motor to perth not the whole car, motor to be rebuilt to OEM specs only. Not going the route of forgies...too much of a fuck around trailering the car to Perth and getting it re-tuned and it would shit me not going further with it and adding this and this... Simply don't have the time or patience with work/family commitments taking up the majority of my days.

I'm sure a good 99% of Perth workshops could bolt together a decent OEM spec 257 but, any further advice/info/opinions on experiences etc would be great. Feel free to shoot me a PM to keep thread clean.

If insurance is paying then why wouldn't you go forgies, as long as they are the same compression then I'm fairly sure you don't need a retune.

Yeah a re-tune is my only concern mate. Once he lets me know the direction I can go in I'll make some calls tomorrow and get some quotes arranged.

Personally, I would have the whole car sent to Perth to have the WHOLE job done properly in a single reputable workshop. It's an insurance job, so have it done properly as the company is paying for it.
There are probably 4 workshops in Perth who could do a good job for you.

Update: Have spoken with insurance assessor, engine exchange and the towing company (repair shop in kal)...Unfortunately no outcomes as of yet that I am happy with.

Insurance assessor is pretty keen on shutting the door on any idea of having the car/motor sent somewhere else. I have requested a copy of the quote so I can take a look over it. I will continue to apply pressure from my end for at least another quote done by a workshop of my choice.

When the engine exchange phoned me this morning he didn't even know what was wrong with my motor....Can imagine my frustration at this point.

Any advice?

God help me!

Not sure how forthcoming they will be with advice, but may be a start - https://www.fos.org.au/

The difficulty is convincing people that ej's are somehow "special" engines that require specialist care. Insurance companies don't care and know that any specialist work will come at a premium to them.

Stuck at it mate, getting a few quotes of my own together now. They have approved the original quote that I had nothing to do with which came to just under 12k inclusive so I have some room to play with.

Was informed by a good source to steer clear of the workshop involved in original quote for RAC.

Have also informed all parties to hold off on any action at the moment until I am 100% satisfied with the direction the repairs go in.

Be careful that even though you have a quote of $12k that the workshop may actually only receive a payment of half of that amount. I have seen insurance companies quote a gross amount and then pay a discounted amount.

It was/is all approved and authorised for that amount, they were going to pull the motor this afternoon but I told them to hold off until I receive other quotes as I wasn't happy about the engine builder.
