Engine oil
Hi all my oil light came on this morning it just flickered once. When I got home I filled it up it took around 4 liters. My last service was about 8 months ago, there is some oil around the motor but 4 liters seams to be a bit too much. Any ideas would be apreciated.
Cheers Steve. Last edited by bullet; 13-05-2016 at 02:59 PM. |

oil has to go somewhere - unless it wasnt properly filled last service
leak, blowby into the intake, or burnt out the exhaust

I normally get the car serviced every 6 months but this time its been 8-9 months
so weather its always used oil i don't know. My mechanic is going to ask the Penrite rep if there is an additive for turbo cars that help stop the burning from the exhaust. |

Don't get offended but you own a tuned/turbo car, you should be checking your oil levels regularly. Have you done any track work since the service?
My betty will generally use around half a litre of oil after an rac sprint - 12 hot laps. Some of it is in the catch can and some is burnt away. Street driving it will use about half a litre per service cycle - 6 months or approx 3000km. If you are seeing boost regularly and have no catch can you may be ingesting a lot of that oil into the engine. Hopefully you aren't burning it away.... Nek minnit epic rebuild thread.

Thanks for that I didn't know that you would burn any oil so learn something new everyday.Ive done one track day at RAC and that day was hot 38 I think.
Normally I get the car serviced every 6 months but out of work atm funds are tight Ill check the oil more often Cheers. |

Petrol station order of events:
1. Fill with petrol. 2. Pay bill. 3. Check oil. Top up if required. 4. Check tire pressure. Top up if required. Next petrol station visit rinse and repeat.

If its a 2.5...well that's maybe normal !
If its a 2.0... something went wrong filling or it has a issue that requires attention. You have given very little info, how many k's ? what is your set-up ?
