I've used redline fluids all through my engine and GB and have never had a failure of anysort. I would also point out that i don't change the oil every 5k only @ scheduled service intervals. I drive my car hard but i wouldn say i punish it.

I guess it comes down to what it is your budget allows and how serioysly you want to punish your equipment.

I remeber someone telling me once that you can't break a 9' diff... you can break anything!

I haven tried royal purple or Motul but i have tried some other oils and found that most of the time you get what you pay for.

I figure that if redline is designed for the american market and they are the least gentle and service friendly people on the planet (remeber thats why the STi in the US was 2.5 and the GTR was going to be V8) that it must be idiot proof to a degree... (and no i'm not saying all americans are idiots for any of you that happen to be of US origin!!!).

For reference:

Race Brakes WA (Cheapest after doing some ringing around).

Motul Chrono 300V 10W-40.

4L @ $ 90.
25L @ $ 500

so i went to repco today to get some 10w40 300v chrono motul oil and i see it only comes in 4litres for 94 smackers. so i ask the guy at the counter if i fully drain my engine oil how much oil will my 01 wrx take and he says 4.5 litres. i find myself i a bit of a pickle. i would need 2 bottles which would add up to 180 bucks, which is about half my weekly wage haha. so i settle for the turbolite which comes in a 5litre bottle for 55 bucks. :)

RichX 27-10-2007 07:15 PM

Yeah i had the same problem! But managed to source another litre from someone on this forum .. Not cheap stuff at all.

maccar86 27-10-2007 07:20 PM

very exensive. i just could not jutify spending an extra 94 dollars just for .5 of a litre.

TopGear 27-10-2007 07:41 PM

hahaha cheaky bastards making it in 4 litre bottles! I use Turbolite very happy with it! you wont have any problems using it.

maccar86 27-10-2007 07:46 PM

very cheeky indeed.
hahaha cheaky bastards making it in 4 litre bottles! I use Turbolite very happy with it! you wont have any problems using it.
Good luck with your big end bearing on your modified GC8 WRX running Motul Turbolight, especially out on the track in summer when its viscosity turns to water. Its Viscosity ratings are not correct compared to other oils.

You get what you pay for - the same applies to engine oil.

$4-6k for a EJ207 rebuild - would you like to place an order now ?
