Basically, I believe in using whatever your workshop recommends.

Reason being, they put it in cars every day. They will know if it works or not. I've heard of one particular workshop changing from Mobil to Castrol, because an oil analysis proved this particular grade and type of Castrol to be better in a number of areas...so it doesn't always come down to what the workshop pays less for if thats what you were thinking.

As long as its fully synthetic, and the [B]correct grade[/B] for your application....and its changed at the correct time, you can't really go wrong.

^ I've heard from a variety of sources now that Motul Turbolight is a thinner oil than it's rating would indicate - since 10w40 is recommended in WRXs as a minimum, Motul turbolight 10w40 is too thin - it's not that it's simply a 'bad' oil but it's too thin for a modified WRX.

I've found it a lot harder to find a good 10w40 (that's under $100) - having used a 5w30 in my old car it was a simple choice... Mobil 1 fully synthetic for $80 odd. Mobil doesn't have a fully syn 10w40 do they?

Why do you need a fully synthetic....some of the semi synths are better than some of the full synths...anyway refer back to the second post and choose any oil from that range to suit your driving conditions.
Some drivers are now using Delvac oil......and report that its working very well.........

Surely oils go through vigorous tests to get their viscosity ratings, so I don't see how a Motul 10w40 can be thinner than say a Castrol 10w40 ??????

Word of mouth > SAE testing standards obviously.

If it is a quality oil with a SAE rating, they will be the same viscosity. If an engine let go because a Motul oil was 'thinner' than it's advertised viscosity, they would have a good law suit on their hands.

it is an interesting read.
Note the differing results for the same grade of oil
especially the royal purple 10w40.

ive herd some people run a castrol formula r 10w60 ? would that mean it copes better with heat, sorry if its a hell noob question ive only had my wrx for 4weeks
