Tune
I just added a cold air intake to my WRX and now I need the car tuned. I live in Springfield Mo and I’ve called the dealership and they said they couldn’t tune it now because of the new addition. Do I really have to buy that $600 tuner?

From Missouri! Hi.
A cold air intake is a sensible mod on most WRX models, a tune is a good idea but (probably) not essential. I think the risk is that with the higher airflow the mixture can be a bit too lean so there is a chance of overheating so pre-detonation. Maybe a dealership can deal with it, more likely it is out of the range of their interest. So, your best bet is to find an independent mechanic, ideally with experience on WRXs or at least turbos, Or DIY? Depending on the year, the chip may need to be 'cracked' or replaced to handle the best tune. |
