It is pretty obvious the government isn't interested in reducing the road toll. Every time something to 'reduce the road toll' is implemented all that happens is the road toll stays the same (or goes higher) but the 'revenue' increases.

If they are serious about reducing the road toll, they need long term plans not these knee jerk reactions. Get kids learning to drive in Year 10 at school, run advanced driver training before they even get there L plates to be on the road, make it harder to actually get a license so people respect the privilege of having a license. Have the police on the road catching those that are going to cause an accident. Sitting 10kmh over with no traffic around is a different situation to sitting 10kmh over tailgating someone in peak hour. All we see is 'speed kills' so now a lot of drivers think if they sit 10kmh under the speed limit in the right hand lane of the freeway, they will be safe as houses. Teach people to drive not how to pass a test.

Nothing has scared me more than being in a car with someone who didn't drive on the freeway because it scared them.

/end rant

Nothing makes you slow down more than seeing a marked car in your rear view mirror. I'd prefer more cops on the road than cameras. A highway patrol could divert to a robery or a gang fight, a camera can not

bingo drum roll please...solution clearly!

problem...anybody want to be cop? We cant recruit enough as it is..Carpenter and Kobelke know it but dont want to discuss it. WA police force knows it as well. Ask the people they have recruited from overseas about their experience here after 6 months on the job and living in Perth. Job is not what they were told and pay doesn't even begin to cover the extra costs of living in boomtown.

PS. Jester you are wise man!

So the hero in the 1st car would be able to sacrifice for the rest.

Rather than start another thread on this forever ongoing debate... pleased to note that finally, some more opposing voices appearing that are credible and make the right points on the subject (yes, yes, despite the substandard show!):

Agreed.

And from another angle:

"People should stick to the speed limit and they will be saved from revenue contribution."
