Internet access or just LAN?

Curious as there are some flights which provide internet access via Satellite.

I was in Singapore when Airbus had a flying around world campaign trying to squash rumours about it never taking off... I saw the water canon salutes and whole lot..

SQ uses 380 on Sydney route already and it is amazing to know that people will pay extra to get on one..

Mind you EK (Emirates) will do themselves and us favour by flying 380 into perth.. anyways even with their 2 flight/day (B777/A340).. it is very difficult to find a seat

It will be years before EK will fly the A380 into Perth (our terminal can't handle one anyway & the $1b airport redevelopment with 45 aerobridges was downgraded to 25 is still at least 5 years away). EK will put on additional flights into Perth using their A330,A340 or 777 aircraft and put the A380 on routes where there are airport curfews & restricted time slots like NRT, JFK, SYD, LAX, SIN & LHR. But with EK having 58 on order it will eventually make it here.

my flight yesterday parked up next to the A380 in sydney pretty impressive. We were in a 747 and it looked small by comparison.

One of the stewardess on my flight says the staff got to volunteer to work ok it, but few of the experienced staff took them up. Apparently they had to agree to stay on the Mel to LA route for 2 years, it's longer working hours and for the folks on the higher end of the pay scale it meant a cut in money.

I believe our runways are not thick enough to constantly have an A380 land, so they will have to upgrade the runways if Dubai do start using one to fly here. But correct me if I'm wrong aviation buffs!

I hopefully will be at work also and get some good views airside styles , but if not I'll be down there anyway. The dream is to one day work in one... but you know perth we get everything last so prob wont happen!

Megan, who is your airline of choice, to work for as a hostie?

Does it come down to where you want to be based?

Good question!

I was just on a flight from Perth to Sydney and the Hostie said that Qantas is shit to work for now. They are not a family friendly airline when it comes to the staff's kids.

She did say that Qantas is definitely better to work for than Virgin Blue but didn't go into any reason why.
