Of course it is, Jim's car is a 2006 997 GT3 Cup car (non turbo & RWD!!).
2006 911 turbo is quicker than the 997 GT3RS.

The GT3RS is basis of the model used for the Porsche Cup (i.e one design racing)......
The 997 GT2 is the fastest road going Porsche currently.

They're both at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Does Nissan fly the owner to Japan to take delivery of their GTR?
Gt2 owner have the option to pick up and driver their car out of the factory...

I believe Nissan started the debate but won't be party to a side by side comparison........ we'll have to wait for TOP GEAR to do it I guess!

Jim ran and won targa west in 2006 with a spankers 997 GT3RS but this year he brought a brand new GT2 with him. I dont think it had even had a retune because he was running it on pump fuel.

Jim races a GT3 CUP car, NOT a GT3 Rs (which is a road car)......

Both the Rs and Cup cars run same engine spec, same basic bodyshell but GT3RS is shorter geared and has a totally different aero package.

Jim Piloted a 996 Gt3 from 1999 - 2005 before switching to the new (then) 997 GT3 cup car in 2006 for the Australian Carrera Cup Championship.

Targa West 2006:

Overall winner was Ross Dunkerton in an EVO 9!!
Second overall was Paul Blackie in a 996 Turbo.

M1C3 - Modern 1 1998 on 3501-4500cc (N/A) class placings
1 54 Hans DE CORTI Porsche 996 911 GT3
Mark DE CORTI

2 40 Paul SUMMERS Porsche 996 911 GT3 (black car)
Michael ARNOLD

Both WA based drivers and cars, Paul Summers now has the Green/black GT3RS seen in the Dutton for the last two years.

Targa 2007 was won by an M3.

The current GT2 race car belongs to Porsche Cars Australia, Jim was demoing that car at Porsche drive days (giving hot laps to prospective buyers)......We had it here @ barbagallo too, just prior to Targa West.

The GT2 was supplied by Porsche cars Australia (Including factory race support staff) to Jim for several Targa rounds this year after the car was officialy launched in Aus.......Everything factory spec + factory race exhaust system, runs on pump 98.

Not trying to be a smart ass......Just the facts (from someone who is trained by and involved with Porsche on a daily basis).

Jim Richards ran a M3 in 2007?

Because he won the event in a Porsche GT3 RS.....

http://www.targawest.com.au/Portals/...%20Results.PDF

He also ran this years event in a GT2.. to further add to this, he had no support staff from Porsche at Targa this year.

Steve Jones bought his own car from Nissan Japan, removed the speed limiter, added the seats, cage, and terratrip and thats it. He also had a crew of friends helping him.

Not taking away or glorifying anyones results, but that some facts.

Dunkerton won in 06 in the Evo 9 that Kerry Wade rolled at the zig zags this year.

Seeing as how your trained and involved with them every day, Ill expect you to be every so slightly biased towards Porsches anyhow
