^^ such as??

my issue is, i have like over 300 DVD's, so I want to get them all onto the PC, with room to download, i mean, borrow more...

so compression would be a good thing.

do you loose vid quality / sound quality when u convert to AVI or whatever?

yeah you would want them as 700mb files not 4.7gb. its pretty much exact same quality and sound. same with blueray is happening now. 1080p movies can be compressed to 8gb, even seen some at 4gb which look great.

If you want speed, you will have a shitty conversion.

Doing it slowly with a 5 pass CCE will gain you dvd quality rips. Using quick little programs will most likely make the movie pixelated in parts.

Nero Recode will do it for you natively.

Performs .avi to DVD player, and allows you to setup all the menu's and stuff to. Used it often. Then got an Xbox360 and use TVersity to stream direct to TV instead.

Recoding takes ages.
