anyone elses up that high? or is that just usual?
im city of gosnells and i pay $1100 with refuge/recycling and that with it not being vacant. it was about 600 when it was vacant land. My water rates are $400 including connection to sewer and water. so im up for $1500 per year.. which is SFA compared to most councils.

You may be subject to a "differential rates" system if you own a block in an estate with lots of parks, lakes, fancy entry statements, bling lights, bollards, etc - you will pay more rates than an "average" estate as the long term maintenance costs for the Shire are higher in order for them to maintain the same standard set by the developer - i.e. they say it costs them more to maintain it, therefore you should pay more as you get the benefit of it.

Why do so many Aussie houses not have eaves? Makes them look a bit weird when you are used to them back home? Plus I would have thought they would help with blocking out a bit of the sun mid summer...

I think it is a common cheap option to increase internal space of a home....
