Does anyone know why hackers haven't made an app that runs the 3GS video software on the 3G? It would be heaps better than Cycorder considering all the editing features. If there are any hardware compatibility issues, they could surely be bypassed.

lets you access you computer files from your phone where-ever you are via 3g.

All I know is that MobileMe let's you sync all of your devices (contacts, email, calendar etc), it allows you to push several different email servers to your phone (servers that dont necessarily support push), use webspace and use that 'find my iPhone' feature.

I'm sure there are more features but you'd expect so for $99 per annum.

i thought it was a hardware limitation. like the compass.

cydcorder takes constant pictures and joins them into a video iirc

I assumed that it was a hardware limitation but I'm sure that it is possible to bypass.

For example, use the 3GS interface with a Cycorder type code in the background giving us the ability to email videos and possibly edit them (provided that the final video is in the same format as it would be using the 3GS recorder)

Seems relatively simple to me compared to all the baseband hacking they have been doing for years already - I'm surprised that no one has done it...

but if the hardware is different or is not located in the 3g then how could software create a function that does not exist?

The only hardware that is different is the camera. I'm saying continue to use the code from Cycorder to constantly take pictures and merge them into a video (as we do now with our 3G iPhones) but use a 3GS video interface and code from there on in. So once the video is compiled, it can be edited and sent via email / MMS.

The compass issue is different - the 3G has no compass and there is no way around it. (except for that fake compass app that doesn't really work haha)

The 3G doesn't have a video camera, but the code in Cycorder bypasses this by taking an array of photos and compiling them into a video. I can't see there being a problem as the video editing and rendering code is software based.

iTunes 9.0 looks to have some interesting call home features...

If you are a jailbreaker, I'd be avoiding iTunes 9 and iPhone 3.1 stuff for a few days.
