For the mining boys

Chasing some info in short, and hopefully theres people in enough different companies here who can provide the info i need!

Im looking for the hard hat policy when on site for as many different companies as possible, basically where you are required to wear it, where its exempt things like that..

If your able to get a copy of it in word doc or pdf or something and can email it to me, id be apreciative..

Long story short, a new policy is being implemented at the site im on, and its its utterly over the top, so id like to get some info from other people to make comparisions and possibly use it as an argument point against the new policy..

i can be emailed to denverparker@iinet.net.au or drop me a pm here

cheers

what do you define as over the top?

Having to wear it from the lunch room to the shithouse..

If your working for bhp it wouldn't suprise me at all

Its not BHP, and i somehow think they're not even this stupid..

You'd be suprised. We had guys doing surveying on BHP property in Port Hedland, out the front of their office. They only went in the gates, to the carpark, and they had 2 safety rep's as escorts, gloves, safety glasses and hard hats on.

These mining companies are becomming 'too safe' if there is such a thing, almost trying to take the fact that you have to 'think' about being safe, and just implementing a bunch of crazy rules, forms and processes to take complete human judgement out of the equation.

Technically they're doing work, its an acceptable enforcement of the rules, what i consider FITH is expecting you to wear a hard hat when your not in an area considered dangerous, and chowing down lunch or a morning coffee..

also is it a underground or open pit or exploration
at our underground site hard hats are only needed undergorund or in the pit
ow and also the mill area

When I was with BHP at Nelson Point, you had to wear it in the car just in case the roof of the car wouldn't stop the heavy object, the hard hat would?!
