Quote:
To discourage predators, the millipede releases a pungent yellowish secretion when disturbed.
This may stain skin or clothes and is extremely irritating if rubbed into the eyes.
Who tests that?

The same people that tell you the last colour you see after getting acid in your eyes is green.

http://www.mabelst.info/garden/archi...pedes-die.html

Portuguese millipedes are a serious pest in the Adelaide Hills.
They ate most of my strawberries and all of my cantaloupes this summer
.
So I have devised a millipede trap made from a Jalna yoghurt container.
I cut the top off the container, just below the shoulder, invert the top part and shove that into the bottom section. The lip, which was at the top of the container, is now half way up the jar and stops the millipedes crawling out. Bury the container so that the top edge is flush with the soil. Make a solution of water, molasses and a splash of sweet liquor such as sherry or blackberry nip. Fill the trap to just below the lip.
The millipedes just can't help killing themselves. The picture above shows the output of one trap in one week.
I don't know if it has much affect on the overall population but it certainly makes me feell good!

Ok. thanks for the help everyone.
I'm feeling slightly victorious (the change in weather probably helped...so we'll see in a few days time when it's supposed to rain again...).
Although there are a few persistent bastards who just refused to die, I did get satisfaction in waking up to find hundreds of slinky Portuguese corpses on the doorstep.

I also tried the suicide trick....half buried a container with water next to the outside light, which worked quite well.
The only problem is I peppered the front yard with the bug powder, but not the back...now they are getting smart and have started coming round the back of the house. Goddamn counter intelligence.

I tell you, my hatred for this species is increasing. As if it weren't bad enough squishing them in to the carpet every time I walk through the hallway (and also as Jester pointed out, they are in fact illegal immigrants), I nearly inhaled one that crawled up the side of my pint glass of whiskey and coke. He promptly found himself in the nail clipper guillotine.

also have a opened bag that weighs 350g.

sold in city farmers in 25g bags for $11

1350g/25g = 54 bags @ $11 equals $594 worth!

washed the carpets today and 6 of the fukkers started coming out from under the skirting boards! Must have been attracted to the damp carpet.
It gives me the shits that they actually hide inside your house not just the garden
