i had an el cheapo 2 channel helicopter, complete fail with just throttle control and rear rotor. big waste as it cost $100... took a battering but overheated way too fast. 6 channel sounds like it would be more complex but offer much more control. what would you recommend to beginners rossco?

Here's a good guide which explains the different types of heli available, and which ones are best and worst for a beginner. If you really want to get straight into flying without the complex set up that goes with CP helis, take a look at what the article says about the HBFP. Of course it won't fly upside down, but being so robust and cheap and simple to repair and set up, many folk find it not only accelerates the learning curve, but the heli will have paid for itself by the time you are good enough to be able to take advantage of what a CP heli can do. Also being a real heli, you will learn much faster and have much more fun than with a sim

Newbie R/c Heli guide

There was a similar guide to this ^^ online when I was learning the basics, the newbie guide above covers all the basics really well.

3d aerobatics - Alan Szabo- 2 camera's one on the heli one on the transmitter

Watch those stick movements!!!

450 electric heli hard 3d aero's
W.A Lad Phil Lennert - 3D Night flight under lights

HDX500 heli - produced by the same company that makes the HK-450.....

The HDX was slightly larger than the HK-450, they both run the same motor and 3s 2200mah lipo battery.......The HK is more precise and 200grams lighter.............As you see it can be set up for hard 3d Aerobatics

Agressive little buggers aren't they!?

Default Newly built HK-450

Heli's are here!

Here's the first of these I've built

Canopy off overview

Left hand side mechanical view

Right hand mechanical view

Flying today (windy as buggery!), just trimming hops & Gyro adjustments....

It lives!

Heli is rock solid in the hover, I had no chance to test it out for circuits, fast forward flight or 3d aero's today as it was blowing 25 knots!......Not the best conditions for test flying!

Set up is:
3s 2200mah lipo
4 x HXT900 servos (0.09 sec 60 degree sweep @ 6 volts)
40 Amp Brushless speed controller
3800 Kv brushless outrunner
GA410 Pro heading lock Gyro
2.4 Ghz 8 channel computer radio

Optional parts fitted (I fly 3D):
Alloy head (with stiffer head dampers)
Alloy main blade grips
Alloy swash plate
325mm Carbon main blades
Alloy tail gearbox
Alloy tail blade grips
61mm tail blades

There are three more being built as I type, 1 modified and 2 stock out of the box......

Not much else to do when your stuck at home with a virus!

Watch this space!

I got Fobz to video a little bit of flying today....

I rushed this together this afternoon.....

Fobz couldn't follow the model in fast forward flight or doing Inverted, Flips & rolls due to the lack of view finder on the camera he used.

Default Opportunity to inspect / see flying the HK-450

Weather permitting I'll head to the Powis st meet point (IWRXOC cruise) a half hour early on Sunday and fly a couple of packs through my HK-450 before everyone rocks up.

Come down early if you'd like to have a look at a Hk heli and would like to see one in action.
