Government blames driving habbits for road congestion?
http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/west...-1225893302254
a bit rich when public transport here is so rubbish, leaving really driving as the only alternative!

On the other side of the coin if major the employers in the city were base in more satellite locations around the area you would expect the congestion to be dispersed.
People are only just trying to get to work after all.

Ummm why point out the truck driver as being alone in his vehicle? I highly doubt he's just heading into the city for work... |

How many 'lanes' of the freeway actually go the whole way? If it was 2 lanes the whole way with no other lanes merging into them, a lot of the problem would go away.
Having the whole of Roe Hwy merge to 1 lane at the freeway and then that 1 lane merge with 1 of the 2 lanes of the freeway, means we have a 1 lane freeway at that point. And they wonder why there is congestion?!

Proffesor Hughes comments were simply pathetic. Read the full comments in the Sunday Times and he goes further suggesting that "better designed traffic circles" rather than lights and automated speed enforcement will lead to less congestion

Definitly agree that the public transport system should be improved, train frequencies are pathetic, one train every 7 minutes on the Joondalup line in peak hour is not enough. When I worked in vic park catching the train from stirling was a nightmare, sometimes would have to get into the 3rd train to come along due to congestion. Now that I work in Joondalup and go in the non peak direction I get a certain amount of satisfaction from watching people stuck in the peak rush
I also agree that encouraging car pooling would help get some cars off the road. What's the need for everyone to feel that it is necessary to waste fuel and $s in parking tickets?

drive to work: 20-30 mins, 40 if really bad.
public transport: 40-60 mins, 90 if really bad. and that 40 mins is if I get everything perfect. ie. 1st bus running early, 2nd running late. Then add bus drivers ignoring you frantic waving. why would I take public transport by choice? (SOR inner suburb to NOR inner suburb, 2 bus + walk across city) |

I think this article is very one sided, most people arent covered by public transport... and as Stace said, its fairly shit. It isnt flexible enough and there is just too much time wasting and shit. |
