I use Bitcomet as my Program and Torrentz.com to find all my torrentz then it gives you a choice of which torrent site to download them from and VLC to view them.
I use Kickass Torrentz for DL's of the files. I've heard some movies and games available through pirate bay are tracked by the movie and game companies to see who is illegally downloading their stuff. lack of Seeds are the biggest thing to hinder your DL speeds!!!

VLC is hit and miss with me, been using CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) & Core AVC (64bit version) and it hasn't skipped a beat on me yet!

Try and use an unusual/uncommon port number, something above port 25000 is a good start. Quote:
If you try to connect to too may IP addresses this can lead to extremely slow download speeds. I believe it comes down to handshaking between connections, essentially you ask for a block of data and then send a reply back to the IP addresses letting it know that you have received the data. I'll try and find a good summation of how peer to peer works, in the mean time, any one with more knowledge or experience on this than me please feel free to debunk or correct me. I use and swear by utorrent due to how simple it is to set up and run, it has an inbuilt tool for setting up the amount of connections/speed limitations based on the speed of your adsl connection. Peer to Peer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer Handshaking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handshaking Some of the studios were uploading/sharing movies and music compilations to track where they were being downloaded, I believe they were also logging this information.

Torrent Client = BitTorrent
http://www.bittorrent.com/?client=bittorrent6400 Codecs = Klite codecs with media player classic http://www.codecguide.com/ Ive used port forwarding but found carefull selection of the torrent ie: the health of the torrent (seeds/peers) to give better results without the use of port forwarding Torrent search engine = http://www.torrenttree.com/

Ok, I have been downloading torrents for ages and ages, but I have just moved into a new place and got new a new router. Its a Netgear EVG2000 and I am on a fibre optic connection. On that portforward website, I can't find my modem. I did try googling portforward for Netgear evg2000 but i read something about auto port forwarding. I got onto utorrent and it says everything is working fine and dandy.. yet I think my speeds could be better.... any suggestions?

Netgear calls them something else have the time, looking at mine now I see (different modem, but hopefully it would be quite similar)
-Firewall Rules -Services I believe if you wish to open ports up, try it through the Service panel, if it exists.

Most of Netgears stuff have virtually the same menu / navigation.
Soksta is right, Netgear call them services. ImPreSiV: You will need to create a service using the port number you decide to you for your torrent program (google this - certain port numbers are better to use to prevent ISP's applying QoS to your P2P traffic - depending on your ISP of course) You will then need to setup a firewall rule to forward traffic on that port number to your internal computer. Whilst your at it, you may as well setup a DHCP reservation in your Netgear router so that your internal torrent PC always gets the same IP address. If you need any help / screenshots sent, PM me. |
