That may be the case at home, but on holiday, most of the time you are accessing funds non stop so you would know rather quickly.

I say, notify the bank prior to leaving and let them know that you are going on holiday and read their disclaimers on security

Yeah definately notify your bank you are going... wouldn't want them to cancel you cards on you because they see transactions happening overseas.

I got a phonecall when i was in Bali last time asking me if I was withdrawings money overseas... Lucky they rang first because they were about to cancel my cards and put a stop on my account.

Yeah fair enough, I pretty much never access anything important over seas. Dont even use credit card. I take plenty of cash with me and use cash for everything.

Yep, the bank wanted to know what dates we will be away and what countries we are going to be in so that they can keep and eye on the accounts.

I normally don't use the credit card at all overseas, I carry the Cash Passport/Travelex type card with my spending money on it and draw that out in local currency but I guess I'm just looking at options.

For the rare off chance that I might get stung with a credit card issue, I'd rather than than get hit on the head walking around with bulk cash.

Really other than the hotel, for your general day to day spending cash is best.
