20 years since we last discussed Daylight Savings
Or was that 1 year?...
Anyway, dates for changes below. Heres hoping some pollies ninja through some daylight savings for WA, shopping hours style! DAYLIGHT saving will begin this Sunday in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT and South Australia. Clocks will go forward one hour at 2am on Sunday, October 3 and end on Sunday April 3, 2011. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not have daylight saving. With the resumption of daylight saving, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart will be: * 2 hours behind New Zealand * 1.5 hours ahead of Darwin * 1 hour ahead of Brisbane * half an hour ahead of Adelaide * 1 hour ahead of Port Moresby * 3 hours ahead of Perth * 4 hours ahead of Jakarta * 10 hours ahead of London, until Oct 31 when it becomes 11 * 18 hours ahead of Los Angeles, until Nov 7 when it becomes 19 * 5 and a half hours ahead of Delhi

I used to think daylight saving in WA was okay because it meant the sun wasn't up by 5am or whatever it is. Wasn't too keen on getting up an hour earlier than usual, but I enjoyed the user-friendly evenings.
Now I'm cycling every day I'm really going to miss DLS. By the time we get the kids to school on weekdays it's too late to go cycling, and I'd really like the option to go for a 2 hour ride after 6pm. Plus now we have 9pm shopping weeknights it would make sense if people could park, shop and return to their cars while it's still light.

It just pisses me off that majority of people can be stuck in such a backwards way of thinking. But at least the government forces it on us for the good of everything. The dumbest thing I heard when everyone was arguing about it was a guy at work was complaining that he hated it and didn't want it, but then went and enjoyed the extra light for a cycle with his missus after work.

Funny how the two states and one territory that have abundant sunshine during summer don't have gay light savings. I start work at the crack of dawn literally so that I have plenty of time for myself in the afternoon.

* DLS is retarded in Perth. Eastern States, sure thing. It gets darker sooner there.
* DSL is retarded in Perth, for me. I'm a shift worker and the extra hour, while fading my curtains and confusing cows, is keeping things warmer and bright "later" into the night making it almost impossible to sleep before going on a graveyard. DLS is retarded in Perth Extended trading hours kicks ass mind you |

Also, how does daylight savings make it hotter? Everything is still the same!

I really dont like daylight saving, it is too hot in the evenings to just relax and wind down outside in the dark, plus it fades my curtains. I hope it doesnt go to the polls for another 20 years.
