Thumbs up

Apple said it's an issue with the board inside and it needs to be replaced as there is NO physical way to restore/update or get it out of the mode its currently stuck in.

I've dropped it off at the little asian phone repair shop HAIOU in Cannington to check out the soldering on the board etc, it will take 5 days and if they can fix it I'm up for $198 if they can't fix it then I don't pay anything.

Apple said I have to pay for shipping to and from the service centre, wait upto 4mths for repairs or board replacement and would not give me a estimate pricing on repairs except "probably 2/3 of the cost of a new phone, FARK THAT!

So I called the Vodafone Loyalty Team today and told them the detailed story and basically said I'm not too happy paying for another 8mths of monthly charges for a phone I cant use, they said they have seen this quite a few times with the iPhone and they would waive a fair chunk of my early exit fees to cancel the contract and sign me up for a new one. (which was a shitload cheaper by 80% than buying a new HTC DESIRE outright)

So I signed up for a new HTC DESIRE HD with the same plan I've currently got which is the $69 cap but was given a monthly credit of $10 each moth for 24mths which is kool, so now I'll have a new phone and pay $59mth and still get $650 calls, free unlmited calls to Vodafone and 3 phones, free unlimited text and MMS, 2GB of data + 2GB of video streaming.

I have to wait 5-7 days to get the new phone but I'm pretty chuffed with the new phone and plan I'm getting.

If the iFail can be fixed then I'll flog it off cheap and if not I'll still sell it on ebay as people buy broken shit haha.

Thanks again to everyone that tried to help but the current problem which is a hardware and board issue can't be repaired by the various suggestions given.

Just to let you know, there are numerous cases of people restoring their phones from this error. Whilst it can be a hardware error, it is also showing up as part of a bad flash of the firmware. If you restore normally, it will not fix the issue.

Most of the guys who got their phones back up and running had to do a DFU flash a couple of times. If it was a hardware fault, they could then retrieve their data from the phone.

Cheers for that info John, it's in the (small) hands of guys at HAIOU in Cannington now, so if it can be fixed im sure they can do it.

Got a new phone on the way anyway so what happens with the iPhone now happens, if it's fixed i'll sell it and if not i'll still sell it as dudes on ebay buy all kinds of broken shit haha.

Have a look here at some guff here on the Desire - might be of interest for you, be interested to see what you think of it. Any reason you went the DEsire HD over the normal Desire? Might wait and get your opinion now before I take the plunge

HTC Desire HD is much larger at 4.3 inches compared to HTC Desire which has 3.7 inches display screen.

The Desire HD has a lot more storage memory and RAM than the Desire. Also support of Wireless N has been added into the Desire HD.

Desire HD offers an 8 MegaPixel Camera with dual flash which is much more superior compared to HTC Desire and has HD 720 recording and playback.

Also the DESIRE HD's screen uses the improved HTC Sense UI and is really slick, smooth, polished, and greatly improves the functionality compared to the one on the Desire.

Desire HD uses android froyo 2.2 and Desire uses android eclair 2.1.

Last but not least it looks better than the regular Desire and that was the main reason beside have flash player 10 etc etc.

Here is the specs side by side for comparison:
http://www.mobile88.com/news/read.as...-versus-Desire

*only thing with those specs is it says NO 3G for the HD but that's only in the US and not here.

From what I've seen the desires are really awesome. The only complaint my friends have had Is the battery life is shockingly bad. ie overnight charge, battery is just about flat by 10am with moderate use.
