Default Iphone and Alpine

Well its not a big issue but thought i would mention it anyway.

Anybody who has the full speed alpine ipod cable connected to ai-net on the alpine deck might have dramas with the iphone.
even ipod touch isn't meant to work properly either

how ever I generally have a 30 gig ipod connected to my deck all the time. works a treat. plug my ipod touch into the deck no problems charges and plays fine (thought told it shouldn't)

iphone though plays song and everything but doesn't charge comes up with a message saying this cable isn't designed for iphone and try's to put phone into plane mode. for me not a big deal as i have other ipods but main thing i wanted it for was to charge it when on the road with out having to get a car charger separate oh well. anybody else tried this as well.
good old apple making life hard.

funny thing is though every single other charger and usb cable i plug iphone into works fine just the damn alpine cable lol doesn't make sense.

Voltage is probably wrong, last thing you want to do is destroy the iphone
Apple warranty returns are a pain in arse sometimes.

I posted this in a different thread, I ended up calling Apple care and investigating it via Sonic techonologies (the people who made the sound dock alarm clock of mine)

Anyway all other ipods and crap used firewire charging, in the iphone and new touches they use usb charging. What this means is Apple in their infinite wisdom swapped a couple of pins around on the propriatry apple connector so if you plug your iphone/touch into a non apple connector, e.g your alpine, my avn6000, hitv or sound dock it won't work.

I guess this is apples way of making even more money off of accessories for the iphone.

I am hoping people like alpine and Eclipse just make an adaptor plug for their existing equipment to get around this problem.

iPhone and iTouch are also meant to charge at a different voltage.

I have an alpine DVD head unit with the iPod interface.
All functions work with my iPhone with the exception of charging.....no big deal really.
I'd be more pissed if my playlists weren't recognized....

Even airplane mode question doesn't bother me (it goes away after 1 minute anyway )

I have an ipod touch which is hooked up to the Alpine CDA 9886...

it charges fine... and mostly works fine.. but then on random folders or songs I get "Error 01" Cant get rid of the error until you unplug ipod, turn it off and back on and then plug it back in. all of which is bloody dangerous when trying to drive

I restored and reloaded ipod but with no joy. Yet I tried a different touch and it worked fine, charged and never had that particular error.

We've plugged an iphone into it occasionally and it worked fine but obviously didnt charge and the phone capabilities dont work when plugged in. It didnt come up with the error message .. but didnt use it long enough to test properly to see if the 'error 01" would come up.

Every other ipod works fine though.. apart from the crapness of it not turning ipod off when i turn the car/deck off. Apparently i need a newer cable ? But that sounds like too much hard work.

so I just switched to using the usb functionality... usb stick ftw ! and I dont have to worry about leaving a cheap stick in the car and having it stolen.

Guys, Do a search there is an adaptor that clips onto the ipod cable to make it an iphone charger. Don't have the link handy but it was about $40 and from what I can gather 2g iphones don't have the same problem.
