I couldn't agree more.
When I worked in retail sales of 4WD accessories we gave up stocking certain products like GPS and 2 way radios for that very reason.
To get any product support we had to buy them through the Australian wholesaler and sell at low margin. Even then we would be way over the online stores. People seem to have no qualms about asking you how to install or operate a product they intend to, or already have bought elsewhere!
Luckily the store manager was Dutch and used to tell them to fuck right off like only a Dutchman can.

Think about it from a Australian retailer's point of view, regardless of how big his Bayliner may be. It's not fair that an online store can sell goods in this country without contributing GST. And we're not talking about a few dollars, everyone bullshits about goods value on the declarations. Eg, full set of Tein coilovers, description - gift. Value $150.

That's the problem that I see. The retail front that the consumer sees is making a small margin due to the high wholesale cost.

Yet the same parent company will wholesale to another country much cheaper allowing the online 'battle'.

Given we are meant to have this free trade crap signed by our governments, surely the wholesalers should have to sell the products at a similar rate in each country. If that rate was less, a lot of products would be able to be sold cheaper in stores and problem solvered.

Someone, somewhere is making a shit tin out of us dumb Aussies...

And now Gerry Harvey has backed down.

Probably due to the bashing he's getting on Twitter...google it.
