Credit card insurance for the win - a family member just had over $40000 paid out. Luckily they didn't pay with AMEX which has a $10000 max payout.

Now that I think about it, i got the tickets with my Qantas FF points, and paid the taxes (all $219 of them) on my credit card. I wonder if that counts? I shall investigate this.

Anyone had any experience with World Nomads ?

Just pay a bit more (if they do charge more?) and go with a company you have experience with. Just back from Korea using HBF. No issues, but I felt a lot more comfortable knowing a fairly large company with a 24 hour support would sort us out if we broke our legs.

Cheapest Travel Insurance I've seen is from Worldcare
http://www.worldcare.com.au/

Found out about that from watching the morning show Sunrise.

Just checked and they cover Cameras up to $5K for single cover or $10K for family cover.

We use snowinsurance.com.au as their policy is geared up for skiing related claims and medical expenses. There is a fair chance of injury when skiing or snowboarding, I'd be more concerned about that than the camera etc.

DO NOT RELY ON THIS!!!

On my recent trip to Sth America we thoroughly compared what was offered by the Credit Card Travel Insurance..do you know what we realised? it covered virtually nothing of any relevance...go to an independant insurance company...i ended up just going with Cover More through the travel agent as it was all last minute and they offered a MASSIVE discount.

Guys just remember if its cheaper its not covering things that you may it expect it to. You have to read each insurance companies PDS and make sure that what you are taking away with you will be covered with their policy.

I have just returned from Europe today and I had HBF insurance (used to work for them). I have to make a claim cos I have lost my phone and I know its fairly straight forward process. I was actually stuck between Allianz and HBF and HBF won out due to the amount they cover per item in their electronics cover. Everyone else covered only $750 per item.

I'm not sure if they have crazy Aussie in a gorilla suit insurance but your chicken suit might be ok.

Those who know Mat will know what I'm on about oh and yes Russ this is a joke.

On a serious note you should speak to Kymbo's Mrs as she works for HBF.

The last years I traveled I got insurance from GIO, average $80 a trip, cover.
though my notebook and slr was covered via house insurance also as portable items.

HOw ever now i have Gold Mastercard also with Amex linked. though they said my amex doesnt give me insurance only the master card does, but thats good as i am traveling twice this year so dont have to get insurance now.

So i say gold master card ftw

I recommend reading the fine print on the Gold MC travel insurance before relying on it, depending on where you're going, what you plan to be doing, cover requirements etc...
