Default Travel insurance

Ladies and gents, I'm off to Japan for two weeks in Feb including a week of skiing/snowboarding. Does anyone have any reccomendations of travel insurnace providers? I'm still debating taking my DSLR over depending on if the insurance will cover it.

Thxu!

First thing to do is to check that you're not already covered by your credit card.

go with HBF. They will cover your DSLR and anything else you have.

I use Aussie Travel Cover (www.aussietravelcover.com.au) for my surf trips...they are reasonably priced and have good medical/evac cover (which you may need snowboarding).....

Read the fine print regarding the DSLR as if it's left unattended and it gets nicked they won't pay out.

A word of advice, extend your cover to a day after you arrive. My folks went to the US for 2 months, their flight was meant to return on a Sat night at 10pm....so they had their travel insurance booked up till midnight that Saturday. Their flight was delayed and landed at 11:30pm, and by the time they got into the taxi to get home, it was 1am Sunday.

They left a laptop bag in the taxi which had a computer, glasses, camera etc in it, that was never returned so claimed it on insurance. The insurance company said that they wouldn't cover it as it happened on the Sunday morning, and hour after their cover had expired. My parents argued with them, that their flight was delayed for an hour and that was out of their hands. Eventually the insurance company came to the party and agreed that they would extend the cover by an hour, which covered their loss.

Long story short, pay for an extra days worth of insurance incase your flight is delayed, or you lose something on the way home etc.

As others have said, check to see if you're covered by paying for the flights with your credit card first. My understanding is if that you've paid for the flights with anything gold or above you are covered for travel insurance, but YMMV.

I've used HBF just recently, pretty painless. You get discounts of you are a member.

Cheers,

Wrxpc
