If its turning on, then off - Usually there is something shorting it out, like dust behind the mainboard etc. Pain in the ass issues as they are hard to track down.

Best thing you can do is rip everything out, put it back piece by piece, and powe it up with absolutely bare bones. Eg: PSU, CPU, RAM .. and see when it fails to identify the culprit.

If it aint powering up with the absolute bare minimun, it's likely to be RAM (only put one stick in at a time if necessary), CPU or the board itself. If you have a newish PSU in, it's unlikely to be that unless you are overburdening it or it's a piece of shit yum-cha brand.

+1.... if you are rubbing a lot of drives, a big graphics card etc, you will need something big to match. Cheap power supplies are known for high failure

4 internal and 2 external drives.

Current powersupply is Corsair HX650W will try all above recommendations.

Cheers,

Cheers,
650W is too low for 4 internal drives imho, go 800 or more

Fair enough, anyone know of any good NOR computer shops to go to as the one I currently use recommended it.

Seems I may need more options that cater for the more hardware decisive challenged :P

Only if you're running an epic graphics card, or two even.

Drives don't use much. WD Greens for example use 4watt at idle. Seagates 9/10 watts and 13 a peak r/w. All drives spike initially at spoolup but flatten out.

He's using a good brand too, so it would be unlikely 4 drives would be causing the problem.

Storm computers osb. park, Mcg Technology Balcatta.

Are you in or near Yokine?

Lightning strike blew a transformer there yesterday, a big surge would have killed it.

mine died yesterday as well.. maybe someone could help me 2? i turn the computer on, the green led goes on, then a second later it turns to red, and starts flashing and beeping every second.. i took it apart, and noticed that when i press the power button, the cpu fan starts up then dies, and thats when the red light starts flashing.. whereas the other fan behind the power supply keeps going. would this just be a problem with my cpu fan?

Close Rossco I'm in Dianella. Looks like a trip to the computer store is in order as cleaning and checking as I was going along didn't yield any results.

Cheers for the info.

650w is overkill rather than under... even with 4 drives i doubt your psu would ever draw more than 400w unless you have a highend video card setup. I doubt its the ram, if it was the computer would powerup as normal but fail the post test.

My suspicions in order would be

1. PSU(very likely)
2. CPU
3. Motherboard (pretty unlikely)

I worked in a computer store for 3 years and im certain it will be one of those 3
