are there any brands you'd prefer? power requirements?

i mean you can get something like a yamaha RXV667 with an ipod dock that'll do everything you need it to do for about the same price as what your looking at. thats around the 750 mark.

I have an RX-A1000. Great amp. No point buying that above the aforementioned 667 or similar unless you have speakers that will enable you to hear that miniscule difference in "sound quality".
eg. don't buy it then attach $600 speakers to it. My personal rule is spending at least the same (or more) on speakers than the amplifier itself.

Personally I would never buy something like an AVR from overseas. The RX-A series come with an extended warranty (4 years) and the last thing you want to do is box the c#@t up and ship it off to Asia or America for a warranty claim.

if thats all you want it for go to harvey norman when they are having a sale, dont f around with warrenty in another country etc etc

if you want a quality amp, to get some fantastic sound re-production. go to frank prowse hifi on stirling highway. they do cater for the high end, but they have a low end of the market that doesnt sell sh!t. and i am sure they can sort you out.
