NSW get a lot of hail damaged cars written off that are repairable to as good as new. "written off' just means an insurance company chose to pay the policy instead of repairing the car. Plenty get repaired and are not 'written off' some have far worse damage. It's not an indicator of the severity of the damage.
It still does have a stigma that will carry over to you should you buy the car and one day need to re-sell it hence there is a reduction in value.

Spot on, although when buying a car there are things far worse than an economic write off, imagine buying one of those cars from the boys next door to Stechnic after they have had a high pressure washer INSIDE the car!
