This is where we were segregated so that cams could pull us apart... Way away from everyone else....

After stage 3 yesterday we were 84th.... By the end of the day we were up to 23rd....

After today we are up to 7th in modern and 15th outright.

Last night we were a fair way behind a corvette that i expected to catch today.... Usually we are a fair bit quicker than him.... Anyways at lunch i see steven richards (the ex v8 supercar driver and dicks son) walking around in a driving suit... Seemingly he arrived in tassie yesterday and took up driving duties today....

Car feels awesome and just got to commit to the notes more. Never going to catch the top 5 guys but our aim is to get to 6th and then see what happens overthe weekend.

The rally is 600 competitive km's and n two days we have only done just over 100 so still plenty of time left....

I wondered when you mentioned Steven Richards earlier whether it was him. Prob Dick Johnson's son Steven Johnson as dick is chummy with the yello cabs guys and a fellow banana bender. Always get me confused myself as they look kinda similar and are both sons of racers who have had a crack themselves in the "big time"

Top job on the charge back up the ladder. No doubt there will be more of it as you head west as you usually fly in the wet. have a cracker.

Your right. They are nearly as ugly as each other! Definitely johnson and not richards!

Dick drove for one day two years ago and decided it was too dangerous and took off again.

Out of curiosity, to what extent did CAMS take the cars apart?
Inspection of fuel pumps/systems, turbocharger, exhaust, etc or as far down as splitting the engine open and checking the internals/heads?

Fuel pumps are free.

They worked out someone had a dogbox.

Airboxes off so they can get the borescope down to look at turbo's.

Spark plugs out to check stroke. To take a spark plug out of a gtr is quite an ordeal.

To check cams they need to take the rocker cover off.

Took front bars off to check intercoolers.

You have to supply a mechanic to either show them or put everything back together.

Surely these kind of checks should be done pre or post event ?

Good Luck with the remaining stages and the charge up the field.

Historically they were only done at the finish line to podium cars if at all (and a tyre wear check at the last lunch stop in case you were on canvas and would cop a forced tyre change and penalty if you had no spares left) but seems they are stepping it up a bit. As its a new level of scrutiny, not a bad thing to do it early in the event to some of the contenders and maybe give them a chance to "put it right" and proceed in the event rather than risk life and limb only to get rubbed out at the finish line.

Good to see they are paying more attention to some of the obvious tweaks.

^^ this.

They did the showroom cars last night.

Today was another really good day and the first of 3 really big days. Think almost the same number of competitive k's as targa west each day for 3 days running....

There was no rain but the two stages before lunch were 'intermediate' i.e damp. In 40km's we managed to turn our 30 sec deficit to purdey's gtr into a 60 sec advantage. So we are up to 6th in modern now and effectively the best of the rest.

Some epic stages today where you can really get into a good rythm.

A beautiful e30 m3 bmw exploded a motor and left a massive oil trail EVERYWHERE for about 600m. Really good driving on his behalf on damp roads over massive crests etc. one of the corvettes tried his hand at rock climbing and lost. An old alfa had a big one and the co driver is in hospital wit a suspected ruptured spleen and broken leg. First on the scene was the drivers old man as they are in identical cars.

The guy that crashed his sti hatch yesterday pulled his r33 gtr out of 'retirement' to finish the event.

Word round the campfire is glenney is having epic gearbox issues. Will be interesting to see how he goes tomorrow.

There has been heaps of mechanical failures we have seen as we have been hooting past.

Top speed today was 239 which is a little down on last years 247.

After telling my mate in the other evo x not to launch he went and launched and decintegrated a transfer case. It ripped the housing clean off the gearbox. Good effort son. I felt a bit stinge not giving him my brand new one but he was already out of the event after his crash yesterday and i might need it yet. TMR had one spare as well but wouldnt sell it to him either because they didnt build the car. Serious.

We are in as good a position as we could of hoped for leading in. Just hope the jigger holds together for another couple of days. The rain is coming tomorrow....
