So my car may, or may not have broken down last night, and whilst waiting for the lovely towtruck, which may or may not exist, I took a few shots. Mostly just to show the area of where I broke down, but this stupid metal box kept getting in the way...

I've heard it's got a range of 6km, and so expect it to get you down the entire length of the straight.

4 fatal speed related car crashes there in the last 4 years. It's a straight bit of road, but prior to that, is a long sweeping right hander that people who drive commodores think they can do 200km around without breaking traction...

Ryan, did you look in there to see if the camera was actually in there? Apparently it won't be active all the time, as it's just a 'housing' for a normal speed camera. They said on the news they will be removing it from time to time to utilize it elsewhere... I doubt this though

has an infra-red flash too, so you won't know you've been done until you get a letter in the mail!

From what I saw the top box housed two (pretty large) lenses, presumably for targetting different lanes. Whilst the bottom part contained the IR measurement gear. Definitely operational, it hums and whirrs and thought I saw a few small flashes whilst I was there. Its definitely a heftier piece of kit than a standard roadside setup.

This is the stupidest thing about these cameras. It doesn't really stop people speeding, as by the time they get the letter, it's just like, "was i speeding, don't even remember that"

Best deterrent is a cop actually pulling you over and telling you you're a naughty boy.
