There is more idiot motorist on the road than idiot cyclist. I was full time rider and I even get pissed off at those who do the wrong thing. Most of the sensible courteous ones are on the rd by 5am so we don’t interfere with traffic. Plus you never know what that cyclist dose for a Job so why judge.

Quite a few company's make power meter's for bikes. They usually have a various array of strain gauges and other measurement devices in the cranks. It is essentially a dyno for your legs...
The most well known being a company called SRM, I'll try and dig up the data sheet from one of his standing start sprints where it gave values for watt's and Nm of torque that he put into the cranks.

*EDIT* for those interested, the technology is pretty cool.

There is infinitely more cars on the road than bikes.

Finally got my new tyres and tubes and have them sitting on the bike ready to go.
Only thing that I'm really missing at the moment is a trip computer/speedometer, any recommendations (local/online) for a wired/wireless trip computer?

Only looking at calculating average speed and distance travelled, should I be looking at one of those funky models that has an inbuilt gps for tracking the trip?

Thanks!

Depends what you want to know. I use a trip computer but that's only so I can glance at my current speed whenever I want to. The rest of the data is recorded by my Runkeeper app on my iPhone.

I have considered using my phone, but I would prefer to not use it and get something stand alone.

I use a Sigma 1106 trip computer that just gives me the basic info for my mountain bike
Total odo
Total time
Trip dist (current trip) resettable
Trip time (current trip) resettable
Avg Speed
Max speed

And a Specialized Sport Trip computer on my Road bike which does the same basic stuff
But there are others that can do all the above and MORE
really depends on what you want to track when you ride

Garmin make good gear. Can get power meter etc if you want to go the whole hog. Mine has gps, cadence meter as well as all the usual gear. About 350 from wiggle.

I have a cateye. Quality must be good as I haven't used the bike in 10 years but the cateye still works!
