I'm all for getting a dog from the pound however of recent times a couple of my work colleagues have adopted a dog from Shenton Park dog pound and have ended up paying thousands to fix their dogs. One of them had to have both rear legs operated on as the dog had ligament damage to both!! shenton park didn't want to know anything about it.

Research the breeder, and do all the usual things people tell you when going to see a pup from a breeder. IMHO the breeder should ask you a million and one questions about you and your lifestyle etc... You are then pretty well assured that they are looking for good homes for their pups not just looking for the $$.

Doubt it. My brother in law's other dogs were a pit bull and a Staffy and they were/are well behaved and trained compared to the beagles. I can't fault his dog handling skills.

After having 2 Beagle puppies at the same time (they were born on 1/12/11), I can honestly say they are a handful. You cannot train them at the same time. My husband and I train them separately, so no big deal there. I have trained Rotties in the past - and they were completely different to train. They wanted to do what you asked of them - the Beagles want to test you...and they will.

We got 2 so they had company for each other whilst we are at work, and they get along fantastically, and are still eager to play when we get home.

I would rather go through the puppy destruction once, that is why we got 2 in one hit. After going through it once, I wouldn't get another one for a long long time!!

It is your decision, so what ever you decide will be the right thing for you.

I agree. Beagles can be very hard to train. Once they start sniffing they can just follow their nose. Great dogs but too sniffy.

I have a mini Daschund and LOVE him! He is the best dog ever. My wife is really good at training him. He is very well mannered. I would have him over a beagle anyday. Thats just my personal prefference though.

I do agree that training 2 at a time is almost impossible unless you are a pro. One dog love you more than 2 anyway. 2 have each other.

Aww Russ!! How cute is that dog! I just sent the pics over the the Mrs (Iultimately she will make the decision as i'm pretty easy).

How often do you walk him? Thats another thing, i need to get more exercise but i'm told Beagles need reeeeally long walks (as they are used to covering long distances etc).

My mrs loves him haha. 1 of the reasons we originally wanted to get 2 was so that they had company whilst we are at work as no-one will be at home... i hate the thought of leaving him alone all day with nothing to entertain himself with (other than a pool, and some garden furniture haha).

You are both more than welcome to come visit him. Honestly he is great. Knows heaps of tricks etc to. The good thing with the mini sausage is they dont need big walks. We take him every day to the park for a run around and stuff with the other dogs. He loves it. Doesnt need huge amount of a run as you can imagine they have small legs so they are moving pretty quick just at walking pace. haha But stuff he can move when he runs!

My mrs works 2 and 3 per fortnight. When we are away he just sleeps or plays with his toys. You wont believe how much a dog will sleep. Something like 18 hours a day. So they dont need constant stimulation. I think he prefers it when we go to work. haha
