I've worked with a lot of dogs in my time at a kennel, a grooming place and a day care and one thing I have learnt is that if a beagle is not trained properly it will be much more than a handful! They are extremely smart dogs and their brains need to be entertained all the time and so they are great at service work ! That's not to say at all that they won't make a good pet - quite the opposite *if* they are trained and entertained you'll never look back! But if they're not - much like many breeds - you will only be looking back over their path of destruction ! Training is key to having a canine friend for life :-) they will be a handful if you get two but if you have the time, patience and resources you'll be fine :-) if you have the money dog day care is a great option to keep them entertained and happy, also perfect way to socialize them from a young age and they're not at home to destroy things as much :-)

Puppies for sale. Dogs for sale. Puppies and dogs for sale Australia.

We got Noodle off this site. We found pictures of him and talked to the breeder etc and had him sent over on a plane from Brissy. be careful of pet shops. They sometimes come from puppy "farms" and can be fully inbred etc. I would never buy from a petshop.

i looked at shelters for months before i adopted an ex racing greyhound.

Soooo many of the dogs at the kennels are beagles, people think they are cute but then they realize that are a massive hand full and require a lot of attention.

They try to escape etc i guess due to sniffing things they want to track down

However beagle puppies are some of the cutest things ive seen My gf and i would love to have one if we had the time.

Just as an out of the field idea i looked for months and months on breeds to find what suited us best, turns out it was the exact opposite of what people may think. I adopted an exracing greyhound thats 5 yo.

Greyhound sales pitch time

THey require very little to no extra exercise eg walking. Infact my dog can barely walk 1km without puffing and really suffering.

They very rarely bark. benny only barks at the bark once or twice if he wants to play with other dogs

They are perfect and love humans and affection, He just sits down at home all day in the same room as us.

Hardly sheds hair, they barely have any hair, their belly is all naked.

Only need to wash every month or so

Very healthy dogs, they dont have alot of the other problems big dogs/little dogs have

Long life span

Benny doesnt jump, their build means they cant actually leap, he can only get his front paws off the ground, cant even get into my car by himself.

Excellent for small homes/townhouses and appartments.

====
Some downsides are

they have been breed to chase, its hard to train them to do otherwise and not very easy to let them off the leash anywhere, they have a tendancy to chase things over roads (and get hit) etc from what i have read.

Law requires they wear a muzzle in public, this makes training in public places/fetch impossible

they are big, they do eat a lot and they are very clumsy

dont make good guard dogs...ive had strangers in my backyard before to work on it (i rent and was away, they had a key) and benny will just walk around with them..mine and all others ive met doesnt have a guarding tendancy.

It may take effort to socialise them with any dogs as they havnt encountered dogs before when racing. Benny is slightly anxious which results in aggresion occasionally, however with most dogs he loves to chase and run around with them

******************************

Sorry for the long post on hounds, once u have owned one you will understand they are misrepresented in the community, they make excellent dogs for old people and are perfect for appartments or small homes.
