Default Dog Owners - Help :)

Hey folks,

Long story short, me and my wife are looking to buy/adopt 2 dogs to complete our little family (we're not having kids, but have the room and time/money to put into having something around for company).

We both really love Beagles, and we're leaning towards buying 2 boys. I suppose i'm asking if anyone has experience with Beagles and can give me their experiences and thoughts. We're not as active as we should be, and we are both looking forward to using the dogs as a way to get us a little more active, and out and about.

I'm also looking for any recommendations for beagle breeders/places to buy from (we know about the WA Beagle Club and have been in touch with a few people on there).

Thanks in advance

We bought 2 Beagle Pups in February this year, and they are simply the most beautiful duo I have ever encountered!

We used the below for ours. Marion is very nice, and to be honest, you have to meet their standards, they wont just sell to anyone.

They are not cheap, around $1200 each.

If you have more specific questions, PM me.

Cheers!
Sherri

My brother in law has had 2 beagles - to be honest, they're pretty dumb and uninspiring (especially compared to Staffies).

Mate of ours has a Beagle, they had it from a pup and it was a handful. Very very curious dog that just wanted to sniff everything and get into everything. Thing it found its way into their fish pond at one stage. But like with all pups, training is key. Good Luck!

My advice is get one dog first and see how you go with training. Once your first dog is trained to your standard, if you decide to buy a second then it will learn very quickly from your first dog.

My number one piece of advice is research the breed first if you haven't already.

No I don't own Beagles but I do have two dogs.

I'd say that's your brother in law's fault, not the dogs - don't see many Staffies as working dogs in Customs/Police departments etc...

Best bet is to go and check out the pounds, you will find the perfect dogs and some are so full they are doing 2 for 1 deals (Atleast there was a 2 for 1 kitten deal I heard about on the radio).
I got my kelpie from the pound and anyone will tell you pound dogs are by far the best, they know you have saved them, mine was going to be put down!
I honestly think breeding should be alot stricter with the amount of pups and kittens that get put down every week. ALWAYS check the pounds first, if you still cant find a dog you like then pay an outrageous breeder price.
Also you might be surprised, we went in looking for a small dog and ended up with a red cloud that everyone told us would be to energetic, how wrong they were! He just likes to lie around wherever we are and do what we are doing, watching tv or whatever he is chilled, if we go to the park and run around he runs around and plays. Problem with going to the pound though is that you want to take them all home haha!

Oscar's law - worth a read before you go puppy shopping.

If you are not experienced with training dogs, getting 2 puppies at the same time can turn into a nightmare. You need time alone with each dog separately to train them properly, there will be double the mess, double the damage etc and you run the risk of the 2 puppies bonding more to each other then they do to you so you're never really in control.

Heaps of people pull it off fine but it is harder then getting one puppy at a time so something to consider.
