Work out what you want to do, drive haul trucks, work in the plant(screen house).
This is either mobile plant or fixed plant, I should say this is above ground, I know nothing about under ground. Contact American Dave on here as DT workforce the company he works for are prefered recruiters for Rio Tinto and talk to him. I'm the oppresite to everyone else, I would not spend the money on any of the training courses as Rio does not recognize any of them, they will give you any training that you will require and the inductions are far more indepth than a marcsta or blue card. On a 2 and 1 roster as a fixed plant or mobile plant operator ball park is about 115k pa. Guys that do shut downs etc will earn more but are never in the same place long, and may not have a set roster.

Also forgot to say jump online and search for jobs with rio Tinto, FMG and BHP they will all same minimum 2 years experience, ignore that just apply for them, this will get your name into their system and you may get a random phone call. It is a very slow process this way it took me almost 12months from applying to actually getting on site. Don't get frustrated they are just insanely slow these HR departments.

If your keen try Wallis Drilling, they hire pretty much on the spot, pays crap for the industry (65k p/year) but they will train you fast. Look into bomb crew with BGC too, hire almost anyone and it opens up a shotfirers position pretty fast.

I would love to get into shot firing. But have no experience in that department apart from...you know, mixing brake fluid and chlorine etc Getting my foot in the door is my first priority now I'm just trying to save and gather up all these tickets. |

My foot is not exactly in the door working on mining sites, but can easily lead there. Currently working for DRA in Canningvale and there are always people leaving to go offsite to do repairs or commission a Drilling rig. its 50 hour weeks, you don't work weekends and you get about 80k+pa, depending if you start of as a apprentice then its less. They pay for all your training tickets and everything. Just something else to look at if your interested.
