I brought a wifi backpac and remote a few weeks ago. There is a firmware update which must be done out of the box. Unfortunately the software which you have to do the firmware via crashed halfway through and the backpac then would not power on anymore (to be excepted). It's well documented on some of the GoPro forums about the wifi backpac issues and many people have bricked them while doing the firmware update.

Anyway GoPro told me to send the backpac back, so hopefully I will have a replacement soon. Keen to try it out.

And yes it would be nice if the app would come out for it.

I bought the wifi thing today. Was USD$99. No idea whether it works well or not yet but will be interesting to see. The logic is you dont need the lcd screen because you can watch it live on your iphone or ipad.

http://gopro.com/support/wifi-bacpac...emote-support/

The process depends on if you have hero or hero 2. The best bet is to watch the videos on the gopro site, as the process is fairly long, but they detail it well.

I did follow the process, but after reading some of the user forums one possible issue was I used a PC with USB3 ports and that has been reported as a possible cause of the problem. I will use an old laptop with USB2 ports when I get the replacement.

It's shame that they had some bugs with the wifi backpac out of the box as it has lead to some people having issues trying to flash the firmware.

Ive had two failure updates on the gopro last night.. i was running an 8g memory card. Im hoping this is the problem and will buy some 32g today.. If i cant update the gopro i cant activate the wifi... Shit like this should have already been done, makign users have to update brand new equipment is pretty ridicoulous in my book.

I'm sitting, waiting with my Hero HD working perfectly fine. Waiting for all you guys to bitch and moan about the Hero 2 and it not working and the app not being ready etc etc for the next 6 months. Once there is no bugs and the app is up and running smoothly THEN I will upgrade

Hero and Hero 2 both require firmware updates if you want to use the wifi backpac. Hero firmware update is pretty easy as you just load the firmware onto the SD card, reboot and hopefully it works. Hero 2 update requires you use the Cineform software on a PC.

Then you also have to flash the firmware on the wifi backpac and remote via Cineform (that is where my issues started).

All a bit of a pain really - lets hope new versions of the wifi backpac come with the new firmware, but I don't think you will get away with not having to do the firmware on the cameras (if you want to use the wifi backpac).
