Default Windows - Server & Ipads - IT advice needed

OK all the IT people out there can anyone suggest the best way for the following to work (I have an IT company we use but looking at options)

My business runs a windows server, exchange etc
Desktops run Windows 7 and Office 2007

All of our information - Documents, templates, drawings etc are stored on the server

we all run Ipads as well and would like to access, create and modify items on the server remotley.

We require that we can use Office applications on the ipads (not Apple versions of as the formatting does not remain)
Access the server etc.

Obviously the email and excahnge side of things we have up and running.

Can anyone suggest the best (non clunky) way of achieving this?

We have trialled a couple of RDP apps but they are useless as we need to leave the desktops on all the time.

We have adbbled with Dropbox and the various readers but still basically useless and clunky.

I am not afraid of spending money so something proven would be great.

Thanks

What about SkyDrive with Windows Live? You could use the online/cloud Office 365 from the web browser.

Office 2013 from what I can tell by the Release Preview is heavily based on cloud storage provided by Live.

Citrix is not a good thing if you want any sort of speed/performance. I have like 5+ Years experience with using it.

Office 2013 due out sometime around Windows 8 which is early october.

What causes the performance issues?

From what I can see citrix has all the features I am looking at - is there an alternative?

Does this solve the use of MS office on an IPAD?

Can I open any document via Skydrive? or does the Ipad then need another app to run PDF's, Word, Excel etc?

Can I open a word template from the server, fill it out, save as XXXX on the server and then send it all on the Ipad?

I haven't used anything yet where you can directly edit say a word document stored on a server via the ipad. Everything has to be transferred to the ipad and later updated to the server (i.e. dropbox).

I've used DocumentstoGo in the past as a Word/Excel editor on the ipad. Was good, but that was a year a go. It uses all the major cloud stuff to update the files on your server.

Office for the iPad is coming soon too.

Have you looked at google drive and documents?

Citrix can edit word docs ect on the ipad, its just like RDP. As Kato said its a pain in the ass editing word docs and excel on a iPad. We use citrix in all out sales hubs around Australia and it works well for PC and MAC. You just need the correct hardware/connections to support it.

Scary I will try it tonight on my Android pad and get back to you - implementation will be the same.

Citrix is EXTREMELY slow - you need to be on LAN to use it without waiting years for anything to happen. Need quite a bit of infrastructure too to get a good setup going.

Windows 8 will be released on 26 October - The Inquirer for those interested.
