Wish you were working where I am Rich, the monkeys who now deal with our IT now have no clue and don't care that there is a difference in requirements office based vs. field based staff.

I work in Canning Vale, so surprised I haven't seen you around.

Happy to be head hunted, for the right price - would take a lot for me to leave my current employer.

I support Citrix in a 5000+ user environment and can tell you if set up correctly it WILL do everything you need, will work perfectly for a BYOD type scenario as well as the citrix receiver client will also work cross platform (ipad/android/mac/windows).

If you don't already own all the infrastructure/licensing and the relevant people to support it - it can be costly'ish to set up but is by far the best cross-platform app delivery you can get.

Most likely because I work in the city
Unfortunately we have gone through the entire outsourcing of our IT about 2 years ago which is when all the fun started to happen!

A lot of stupid decisions have been made since then, would rather you enjoy your current job

so when is the windows tablet out then?? May be a cheaper option to replace ipads than going with a new setup entirely

Somewhat agree. We have a full blown citrix farm for several thousand users too, and yes it has it's uses and is pretty nice to have. No way i'd roll this out onto a fleet of iPads though and support hundreds of users on it across Telstra 3G. We only use the citrix farm for a few things, mainly web portal and xenapp.

Would much prefer a Windows device with a 3G VPN, or better yet, Telstra 3G with your own Corporate APN back into the network.

There is a lot of management overhead, licencing, infrastructure and all that stuff with a Citrix farm. It needs a lot of looking after, tuning, monitoring etc.

Corporate.

@richx - agree, a lot of tuning and tweaking required but I think Citrix is better app delivery option than RDP or remoteapp.

why people are trying to use ipads in a corporate environent is beyond me. They are pathetically useless at getting anything constructive done unless you just play angry birds.
