The builder will generally say that they won't insure or won't install your appliance if you pick it yourself, but if you put the pressure on, most will cave in. Otherwise most people just fit their appliances in themselves. What people don't realise is that Cut-outs for things like cook tops aren't the same across brands. You don't want to have to worry about sizes later on and restrict yourself on what you can and can't put in. If I were you, I'd take whatever rebate they'll give you to not use their appliances and buy something straight off. You probably won't get much off for it but it'll save you so much pain later on. I see too many people complaining and unhappy once they realise that they have to settle for something that'll fit into their existing gap rather than buy something they want because it'll cost them too much to modify it. Do it right the first time!! |

I've decided on the ilve thanks to a lot of help from Jon - top bloke. Just got to figure out the configuration and matching hood etc etc :-)
Thanks again to everyone for the help.

They all do the same thing, save your money. Get something fan forced and probably semi local (which is still probably china spec but easy/cheap for parts). Other than that the rest is marketing.
If it only goes for 4years instead of 10, its about 25% of the price.

I bought a Lofra 700mm, to fit strange width void in kitchen, as it was cheap as (in comparison to other 700mm models crack pipe pricing) and has worked better than most of my mate's more expensive brands.
Only complaint is the oven fan is a bit noisy.

Saying all brands are the same and it's all about marketing is about as educated as me saying your Subaru is the same as buying a Hyundai and it's all about marketing.
Why didn't you buy a cheaper car then? They all do the same thing? |
