So back on this topic...

Council are being twats and due to a potenital road widening scheme they are able to take some land.

I dont want to be forking out huge money on a brick fence/ limestone that the council can rip up at my expense and then id have to replace with a new fence at my expense so looking at alternatives..

Would a colorbond fence plus sound deadening material used in audio etc block out noise? Or is it not worth the hassle?

while i haven't used it so no sure of the cost, i have read of this being used

Acoustic Fencing – Front & Boundary Fences | SlimWall

i think there may also be a product you can clad onto existing colourbond fences - makes it look like a rendered wall. this may offer some acoustic properties, cant remember the name sorry

Hi if your looking for a bricklayer
Give Christian 0420 640 952 a call he has over 15 years experience and tradies always comment on his work. The people who put my gate in said they have seen some dodgy walls they have to attempt to attatch gates to.

In regards to colourbond we have it now and it allows sound to travel. Hard call but worth getting a quote for this brick wall compare the difference?

The cladding by another user sounds good to I should look into that myself

This is another similar product, quite cost effective as well.

If you decide on colourbond, you should consider planting a fast growing hedge in front or a vine/creeper over it to help reduce noise

Another thing a fence and plants do is minimise the amount of air pollution entering your house/yard from cars and trucks. I remembering watching some show that tested the difference in pollution levels between no plants & plants in a trial in the UK.

I don't want to waste money on a brick wall that could be potentially be taken down in the future.

Sound isn't bad. I want higher fence so looking at acoustic properties whilst I'm changing it.

I want to rise the fence height so that will be beneficial
