A 9Mb file currently takes me 36...........minutes.

Seriously how long does it take to disconnect a service and then let the new provider take over......14 days apparently.

Test Time: 12.55 secs

Your line speed is 6.02 Mbps (6024 kbps).
Your download speed is 753 KB/s (0.74 MB/s).

so I'm thinking of going with amcom on this plan...

Amnet 12M/1M ADSL 2
up to 12M/1M 10GB / 10GB $49 p/m

I have a Intel Pro wireless card in my laptop and a home phone line connected with Telstra..

Any tips on what type of modem/Router I need? how much should I pay?

Pete - you should be paying around $120-150 for a wireless ADSL2 Modem/Router from what I've seen. I'm going with Netgear.
