Default Thinking about buying...

Hey guys tinkering with the idea of selling my car to save some cash. Once sold i will have to buy something else to drive in its place.
Ive been thinking about buying a Jeep Wrangler.
Now i love the outdoors so i dont mind the old hike somewhere on the beaten track and i dont really wanna spend more than about $17,000 at the max. I want something that is still fun to drive and looks cool as well.

Just wanted to post to see what you guys thought if you had any ideas or what your experiences with wranglers or others was like.
Feel free to vent!!!

petrol guzzlers. and from memory they come in auto only, which probably compounds the petrol consumption.
V6, 3L. Really sits only 2 ppl as the rear will end up being a storage area if you go away for trips and such. They are not your classic 4WD, as they don't do as well offroad as the traditional 4WD, like Landcruiser, Pajero.

On your budget, i'd go with the short wheel Pajero. Very good offroad vehicle and city driving is good and friendly (more than the wrangler by comparison) to your wallet.

have a look at the www.perth4x4.net site might be some info their.
I have seen a few on the beach up lancelin way, they seem to manage the sand OK but you might find it a bit agricultral road manners and handling might scare you.
I have a suzuki vit which is ok as long as your not in a hurry!
How about a GT forrey, I had one of them and they can do the beach to a point and a a great drive on the bitumen and gravel.
17 K will easy get a older one of them.
TD04, and exhaust and your set!

Emil

I OWNED ONE from new, a MY98 Wrangler TJ. Bought here in Perth. Sold it in 2002. Bloody good vehicle made tough and go anywhere. Great with soft top just don't keep anything of value in glovebox or in view. Very good low end torque and you never have to worry about your lip scraping the curb. Straight 6 engine is a good one IMO. Also, chicks loved riding in it!!!

yeah man rancho rocket the second...38" muddies...fark yeah roll with my dad hey big truck and little truck
nah you can get em with a hard-top which i think is also removable (with some help) and can be bought in the aftermarket.
not really worried about the juice. id only drive it after work and on the weekends
they are just simple engineering designed for ruggedness and go anywhere ability.
im yet to drive one but will do tonight and over the weekend and ill come back with some results
