(Grave digger )

Looking at getting a digi cam. I've narrowed my option down to a Canon IXUS 90 IS. I can get it for $377.

Is there anything else people reckon I should be looking at? I have searched the many camera review sites, but was just looking for some first-hand feedback of other options
Budget is probably around $400. Obviously looking at compact digitals (not DSLR's or anything).

(I've always been a fan of Canons- have had a few in the past. I don't mind Olympus and Sony, but Canon have always seemed the most reliable, cheaper (at least cheaper than Sony!) and well built).

Cheers!

For picture quality from the cameras I have seen can't beat the Canon, Panasonic or Fuji range.

My brother has a Panasonic and I was quite surprised with the sharpness of the pictures.

Canon A650 IS has a RRP of $499 im sure you could get that alot cheaper too.

12.1 Megapixels
6x optical zoom lens
DIG!C III with ISO 1600
Face Detect with Auto Focus, Auto Exposure, Flash Exposure and in camera red-eye correction
2.5" vari-angle LCD screen
Optical Image Stabilizer

OR save a bit longer and get a G9 they are the BOMB or compact cameras.

Anyone hade experience with the Olympus Tough 850SW?
It's the one from the advert where the dog has it in his mouth.... I'm just thinking it might be good for up north given all the dust and beating it will inevitably receive.

My 2cents...

the Olympus camera that is 10M waterproof looks pretty damn cool ! didnt play with it much though.

for Mothers Day we got my mum an Olympus mju 840 - perfect for the people who dont know much about taking photos.. and who want the camera to do all the work for them ! the Menu system is really easy and it has nearly 30 different scene modes with all the presets in them. the lcs screen on the back is "hypercrystal" as well. prolly some bs marketing rubbish but it looks farkin clear and is really easy to read in full sunlight. 5 x optical zoom - which i rekon should be the standard now... 3 x is so 5 years ago !

+ 1 for whoever said to buy from Digital Review on ebay. camera arrived in about 3 days.. perfect and about $100 cheaper than any store in Perth... plus it had memory card, spare battery, tripod etc.

I also have a Canon 960 IS ... I got so confused when buying cameras due to the 6 million different models in every brand ! But have to say im extremely happy with this one !

Both cameras were used at a 21st last week.... with flash for every single photo...took a couple of hundred pics each... and the battery was still on 'full' for both of them the next day.... how far we have come !!
