You want them for you iPod so will be in use on the go?

If so you don't really want full cans and would be better of with canalphones.

From your brief requirements I would get Head-Direct RE0:

I have them and they are fantastic value for money, used to cost around $300. Light on the bass but brilliant at everything else, matches your description.

But if you are after full cans then look at:

or

None of these need an amp.

Forget Sennheiser.

+1 for Sennheiser HD25's.

When i bought them about 10 years ago they cost somewhere in the vicinity of $499. However they were awesomeness on a different scale. I miss them so much (wish i never sold them!).

I just could not break them no matter how hard I tried, even with the monitor gain cranked right up on the DJM600 i just couldn't break them.

Well worth it.

the nuforce gear is really good too, they have little amps and headphones and canal phones that are killer sounding for a bargain price.

A lot of great headphones don't need an amp, don't waste your money, put it towards better headphones.
