Nice Pics Dan.
Drag racing must be one of the hardest subjects to photo.
Unfortunately for us amatuers were relegated to the stands which limits your options for photography. Worse than rallying and circuit racing.

I like the last shot of the beemer bonnet, its shows us that you dont need to include the whole car. With BMW's its really just the badge and grill you need.

The secret is the compostion which unfortunately has always been the hardest part!
Those that are gifted with an eye for good compostion are truley blessed.
The rest of us like me just keep taking shots hoping one will work out.

If all else fails, stick to the rule of thirds for composition, thats what I do when I have no inspiration for a composition.

Google "rule of thirds"

yes but it doesn't mean the autofocus systems and lenses are up to scratch (fast enough) to take demanding fast moving objects. better cameras will have better AF systems as is is with lenses (ability to focus on less contrasting points). cheaper lenses will focus slower and have smaller max apertures, so is a lot less useful than top end glass.

some high end cameras have continuous focus tracking and continuous shooting. using these two, and a good metering method depending on the environment, makes a huge difference (most pics will be sharp, instead of getting a bunch of pictures @ 5fps that are all blurry).
