finally after the longest/frustrating/annoying 10 days of my life (slight exaggeration) im in to mms bright and early tomorrow to find out (a) whats wrong with my turbo and (b) what to do about it, lots of research has been done thus far but i havent come to any finite solutions because i need to run it all by steve

option 1 - rebuild my SZ49 (depending on whats wrong with it)

option 2 - new FP green (FP have a special on 2.4 inch inlet versions ($1200)however they are internally gated and i run an external gate setup, im fairly sure its not overly difficult to mod the turbo for external gate ability)

option 3 - GT3071R (will need a bigger gate 44mm as opposed to my 38mm and more importantly i understand there are fitament issues with putting these on RHD cars but again we'll see what mms reckons)

MV is fast approaching!!!

feel free to express opinions etc ill update with progress for those interested...i've gotten used to driving with lag and it doesnt worry me so i wont be downsizing, i like my car pulling like a train in the higher rpms

You can just buy brackets that hold the internal gate shut.. It just mounts like the actuator or you can weld it shut.. I would go with the bracket personally.. If you go down the FP route that is.

thats the confirmation i was after scott cheers! Assuming fp still have them in stock at least i have a definate option to fall back on. This is the option i will more than likely persue due to the time constraints

welllllll, as some of you would know my car didnt make it to MV which is disappointing but hopefully we'll be back next year with more power and a nice strong box for skids

optioned to rebuild my turbo as it was looking like the quickest option to have the car on the road for MV, as it turns out the guy rebuilding the turbo was waiting on parts and only recieved them friday, so i'll definately have it back next week. If all goes to plan will be getting tuned wed/thurs (hopefully it cools down).

the turbo had a diesel compressor wheel in it which is quite odd and when the turbo was pulled off it had huge amounts of shaft play and the seals were gone. So with a performance compressor wheel, freshen up and more boost it should go pretty well, looking at cracking 330hp atw but we'll see what happens on the day.

anddddd results are!

The same. 230 ish kw atw on bit over 18.5 psi, comes on bit sooner, feels stronger through the rev range, feels rock solid so im not stressing about no jump in KW especially in the heat. Again mms went far and beyond the call of duty couldnt be happier with the service and install of the bits.

new radiator went in ok, bit of customisation required but works well, gave the car a good belt on the way home, the temp stayed rock solid 90 degrees, intercooler spray wired up properly, thermo fans work properly, headers and external gate back on, replaced the hub bolts and made spacers to keep my wheels from falling off

Fell in love all over again after peddling mums mazda 2 around for 2 months couldnt be happier to have it back

whats next?

Box, Brakes, wheels and a bunky.

to be honest chasing another 30- 40 hp doesnt interest me right now, the cost of new cams, head work etc isnt worth it ill save that for when it blows up
