After another chat with John @ WW it seems that AD08s are still the right tyres for my application, as I will get the most life out of them. After the last skidpan at AHG I need much more practice in order to be properly competitive.

Once the AD08s are shot I should be competent enough to warrant a fresh set of R-comps, and start getting competitive. Will be keeping my ears open for a used set of rcomps too.

Will be registering for the next rallysprint, and keeping my eyes open for any other track days etc for more practice.

I was considering harnesses, but after reading up on it, I should be looking at cages first?
I'm not ready to make the car into a full race car yet, but may consider a half cage or something if it is going to keep me safe should something go wrong on the track.

Would like some input from other members who have been in a similar position getting into motorsport.

Cheers gents!

Both Alex and I run harnesses with no cage.
Before you worry about harnesses you will need the following for rallysprint...

2kg of fire extinguisher (2x 1kg) which must be tagged within last 6 months.
First Aid kit.
2x reflective triangles.
A codriver.

Make sure all your lights front and rear (incl reverse) are working,
and that the battery is well secured and positive terminal is covered.

If you do get harnesses make sure they are the twist buckle type, not lever latch type.
CAMS manual of motorsport specifies how they are to be mounted (ie. correct angles).
Go see Doug and he can make some dardy mounts for them.

Rallysprint = more hazards (concrete, kerbs, fences etc). Ask Dave how cheap it is when you hit one! (<3 Dave).

Depending on what you want to do, I think more seat time at skid pan, double skid pan, long track, Wanners, Collie and sprints is better suited to someone starting out in motorsport.

By all means do rallysprint, but realise it is setup more for those with targa cars to do something in the off season. It is also highly addictive (I've only done 1 and want to do more), but do what I do and be there to fill up the last spot on the results.

I like a harness in a car as it holds you into the seat a lot more than the standard lap sash. Without roll over protection you do fall into the grey area of where does your head go if you do roll the car. Something to consider as you get more speed happening.

Simple way to look at it, is drive to the conditions. I'd rather finish last, have fun and come home than not finish, end up in hospital chasing 1st place.

Cheers Dave. Can the 2nd extinguisher be on a bracket in the boot, or should it be in reach of the drivers seat too?
& I'm guessing one triangle is tow point, other is battery point?
And I have a co-driver with a CAMS licence lined up

NO. both fire extinguishers must be in the cabin. Put one under each front seat.

By reflective triangles I mean the the ones that you stand by the car is you have a accident.

Also make sure any harness is in date.
Had a couple during scrutineering the other night that were borderline.

Cheers Kato, pretty much matches what I had in mind. The rallysprint course did look potentially quite dangerous, so I would have to take it easy until I have enough confidence in my ability at the limit.

Thanks Russ, I will have a chat to Doug first and see what he reckons about the harness, then I'll be in touch.
