It was a few years back, I know my mate did put some video on youtube but not sure if it's still there, I'll have to ask him if he's still got the video saved somewhere when he gets back from overseas next week as it's pretty funny watching him nearly fall off the back when it kicks in

Just a quick update before I head down to Bunno to pick up a stranded friend. Direct Port NOS foggers will arrive tomorrow so I'm on the lookout for an STI intake manifold or even an aftermarket one to mount them onto so I have a spare one in the event of needing to take them off again.

Bought a USB to CAN adaptor for the Motec last week and have been doing my research. Last night I decided to download the current ECU config in an attempt to try and sort out the erratic idle when cold and noticed that the poor car has been setup so badly it defies all logic. Running rich would be an understatement, no wonder I've only been getting 200km max out of a tank of fuel. So eased off on the fuel, gave it some realistic injection timing (not 100ms to 400ms with nothing in between) and wouldn't you know it runs so much smoother. Then increased timing by 0.5 degrees across the board and increased idle timing from 5 to 12 degrees and it's like a totally different car, so much more response and power down low where it badly needed it. Crazy thing is that it's still running mega rich and timing is so conservative it's a joke. There is still so much power to be tuned out of this engine, problem is going to be finding someone I can trust that will actually do it rather than just take my money and do stuff all like what happened when it was meant to have been tuned a few weeks back. I'll still get ASG to do the NOS & turbo & extractors but I think they are too busy to give the proper attention a car like this needs.

Anyone know any good Motec tuners (that aren't snowed under with work)?

Good:

The lads @ ASG.
Simon @ GTi. (Tunes for TF as well).
Tony @ TFM. (Can tune Motec - but generally hand balls to Simon).
X-Speed for memory can (and have their own dyno). Although primarily tune Nissans. That said, they do have engine/tuning expertise in house.

**EDIT - Also, I think Joe uses/used a dude called Glen Baker or something?? PM Balistic and ask him regarding feedback. I havent had any dealings with him, but I think Joe said he was good**

Bad:

MMS.
TSWR. (West Racing).
Intune.

NOW, before the workshop band-wagon juggernaut fires into life... This is in relation to MOTEC tuning, and of the above list, I have first hand experience with 4.

Brent.

Awesome, thanks for that. Will give Simon at GTI a call in the next few days.

Direct port NOS kit arrived today, 150hp shot of NOS goodness is only days away now

It lives again! Engine completely rebuilt by Maximum Motorsport with all Cosworth internals apart from main bearings which are King brand as there was/is a shortage of Cosworth/ACL bearings. The block has been properly converted to fully closed deck and the workmanship was out of this world unlike the abortion of an attempt that was done on it previously. I had to replace the radiator as the last one was damaged beyond repair when the head gasket gave way.

Main differences I've noticed so far are:
  1. Off boost it seems a LOT quicker, so much so that I'm going to put the GT35R back on now
  2. A lot louder than before, certainly can't be driven on the roads the way it is without mr plod having something to say about it. Doesn't really make sense as to why it is so much louder as it's the same exhaust setup as before. Only thing I can think of is that when the last engine died it sent coolant all the way through the exhaust and maybe it had some sort of an effect on the muffler or cat...?
  3. Clutch is a LOT louder than before. Normal for a twin plate carbon clutch but not sure how it was so quiet before being removed and re-installed.
  4. Engine seems a fair bit lumpier which would have to be tune related as the cams are the same as before (at least I think they are). It absolutely hates going slow now, has the same feel as a wild-cam V8 with single plane intake manifold in that on idle or low rpm it bucks around and is hard to control but once you give it some fuel and open it up it comes into it's element.
But overall I'm very happy with it, at the moment it's still going through the paces and ironing the bugs out etc but it certainly has potential and best of all I'm now starting with a known element rather than a tired anti-lagged to all hell mystery motor.

Let the good times roll (well at least until I run out of money and can't afford to put petrol in it anymore lol)....
