To stop the understeer (from what I understood) you have to treat the WRX like a FWD and beef up the rear sway. Not too much or it oversteers.

So I presumed a 22F/24R was a pretty decent daily set-up, which is what I ended up getting.

steve-lang 01-05-2012 06:28 AM

Looks amazing man. You are now my inspiration in life. Gonna have to start making some calls.

johnvk7 01-05-2012 06:55 AM

Need to hit a track day and confirm the new settings hey Craig? Certainly goes against conventional thinking with regards to sway bars.

iceken 01-05-2012 07:22 AM

Is the bigger turbo inlet worth getting for a VF52 turbo? or it wont change much difference in air flow.

Probably better to get the 3" inlet with a turbo upgrade?

Kato 01-05-2012 07:59 AM

24/22 will be optimum for a daily GH/GR chassis.

Everyone is just applying GC/GD knowledge to the wrong chassis.

I have Cusco 27mm front and 25mm rear on the Evo, so a large front bar is nothing new :D

Saint_23 01-05-2012 09:47 AM

Front to soft, rear to hard. Find a 45 degree bend. Flat in 5th.

No idea dude, it never got installed as it was found to be the wrong one. If/when I chuck a TD05 in it I might look at getting an AVO silicone turbo inlet but next on the list are:

* other various small Whiteline products
* clear ice white bulbs for the parking lights as they look shit next to the xenon
* satin black sti spoiler
* rims (leaning towards black now instead of white)

oh, and to get around to Mutch's and andrewp to pick up flaps and tailight overlays.

TROLLEY 09-06-2012 03:18 PM

Some minor cosmetic improvements were made last night with generous help and expertise from SOKSTA. Thanks also to Owen @ Meltham Motors for sorting out the paint on the chrome garnish and spoiler.

Next step will be overlays and possibly vinyl wrapping the roof.

steve-lang 09-06-2012 03:23 PM

If you are vinyl wrapping roof. Im keen to do mine also. Looks sweet mate. Get those overlays on.

If I do the roof it'll be done by Gav @ GT Graphics. I'm definitely not trying to do it myself.

American Dave 09-06-2012 04:08 PM

much like, big improvement mate

Speak to Ross: the wesidential wrap expert.

Car looks great now craig minus the chrome!

Soksta 09-06-2012 05:28 PM

Happy to help Craig!
Car looks much better now, will be happy to see you getting closer to finishing it off :D

Is it ever really finished until you sell it?

Nice improvement Craig, some red overlays will definitely top it off.

ImPreSiV 10-06-2012 07:49 AM

I thought you were doing red edges, black fin?
I thought you were doing red edges, black fin?
That would have looked schweet!

TROLLEY 11-06-2012 09:50 AM

I can always pull it off and get the ends painted red down the track, but I decided that from a front-45 degree angle and side-on, I liked the separation that black gave. Looks a little more aggressive in black too, for want of another word.

monkeee 12-06-2012 05:26 PM

Needs SSR Type-F's in matte black...but then Im a wee bit biased to SSR's. :o

Car is looking good Craig.

mitchwnz 12-06-2012 06:07 PM

Looking good mate!

TROLLEY 20-07-2012 07:16 PM

Update time. A day of good, a day of annoying.

The good - got the roof wrapped by Gav @ GT Graphics. Superb service, great bloke. Highly recommended.

The annoying - the stupid fuck in the US who does the BlueBatMobile overlays. Initially my order was missing from the group buy package, so they ended up being sent separately. When I do get them, he's given me yellow fog light overlays instead of the black 3/10 tint I ordered, he sent me two left hand side inner tail light overlays (as you can see in the retardo rear end), and the headlight tint is 6/10 not the 3/10 grade I ordered. Looks mean, but I am probably going to take it off tomorrow. I feel it would be a definite canary earner and I'm not keen on chancing any insurance issues. The 3/10 would have been a whole lot more subtle, albeit equally risky.

Here, have some photos:

Alright, now I have 3k tax return to play with. I'm thinking rims (only Ultrex or Rota) with some decent rubber considering I have barely worn S-Drives on the car already (may try selling them) or a TD05-20g and retune (alternatively an AVO380). If I chuck on 18's I'll have to put in lowering springs as well.

Whatever I do, it will be the last significant change for quite a while as the fiancee and I are close to purchasing or building a house.

Eagerly awaiting positive contributions, and expecting flames from the usual bullies :D

btw: unless you're running Firefox with colour management/ICC profiles enabled, the colours are probably going to be fucked

huggy_b 20-07-2012 07:24 PM

I reckon the Ultrex RS gold would look the business.
Rotas - Gravel in hyper black maybe?

Soksta 20-07-2012 07:27 PM

WedsSport TC105N :D

TROLLEY 20-07-2012 07:35 PM

huggy - I wanted gold rims from the beginning but (even though I dislike black rims) I'm now leaning towards black rims just to follow the cosmetic mods. Either black Rota grids/gforce/T2R or black Ultrex classics like PoktRokt has. Saw one on display at STechnic last week and really liked them in person.

RichX 20-07-2012 07:36 PM

+1 on dark/black rims with a mean offset and wide.

Big brakes to complete the look.

huggy_b 20-07-2012 07:44 PM

TR2 would look nice, but more look than function given the width and offset, particularly since you dont have a widebody - you'll have to roll guards, camber like a demon.....to many headaches I reckon. IMO, you dont want to be the 3rd hatch on P-WRX with grids. If you wanna test fit g-forces, I'm sure we can organise to put my rims on your car to have a bo peep?

I think PoktRokt is looking to get different rims? Maybe grab hers on the cheap and get the turbo/tune as well? Goodness I'm brilliant......:)

steve-lang 20-07-2012 08:09 PM

Get the same bonnet scoop as huggy mate. Will look mint with roof etc

TROLLEY 20-07-2012 08:31 PM

eugh, thanks huggy I just saw the only widths available for the T2R. I'm sticking with 8-8.5" for the reasons you mentioned. That's a bummer, they were my favourite Rota's.

REXXXED 20-07-2012 08:37 PM

Me likey, can't believe I'm saying this. But Betty looks goooooood!
Nice set of black rims and the look is complete!

Deviouskim 20-07-2012 08:57 PM

Who installed your overlays?
I was missing my foglight overlays and mine were tinted. Wonder if ours got mixed up :S

Looking good! Had thought about getting my roof wrapped too after seeing it

monkeee 20-07-2012 09:03 PM

Roof and tails look awesome Craig.

I think Ultrex RS or Classics in black + KU36's (cheap, but awesome for the price tyre...that or some Federal 595's). Simple clean wheel designs to suit the rest of the cosmetic mods.

TROLLEY 20-07-2012 09:04 PM
Who installed your overlays?

Gav was kind enough to put them on after doing the roof. He's also going to source some 3m red translucent wrap and re-make the rears for me as he has the backing paper templates. Would be good for someone local to be able to provide them for anyone wanting them in the future.

ImPreSiV 20-07-2012 09:06 PM

Nice work Craig. Roof wrap looks great, wouldn't expect anything less from Gav. Shame about the Overlays. The fronts are definitely way too dark, and if you send a pic to the clown at BluBatMobile I am sure he will sort it out for you.

As Huggy said, although the T2R's will look the biz, they are too wide for your car. Go for an 8.5" rim. They will sit nice and flush and with a guard roll in the rear, you will be more than happy with them!

I suggest these. Always look good on the hatches IMO.

And I agree, you need to go black, or at least dark, in order to keep with the theme you're going with.

PS: Nice front lip

TROLLEY 20-07-2012 09:17 PM

hahaha I'm waiting on Main Roads' decision as to whether they're going to fork out for the new lip and bumper repair/replacement. I've sent them the two quotes they requested.

I can't be bothered with the BlueBat guy. At the end of the day, due to the contrast in colours even the lighter headlight tint would stand out like dogs balls.

ImPreSiV 20-07-2012 09:20 PM

Haha, what's the front lip worth? Good on you for contacting Main Roads.

TROLLEY 20-07-2012 09:31 PM

$270 including shipping. I may replace the bumper due to a second tab being busted near the headlight and two retainer holes being "pulled through" on the left hand side arch. Within time the left side of the bumper will start falling off as the clips will no longer hold properly. Hard to explain without the aid of photos. If they don't cough up I'll just plastic weld the holes and attach the new lip to what's left of the underside of the bumper, lol.

Deviouskim 20-07-2012 09:55 PM

I need to reorder my overlays as one of my rear ones ripped so I don't think it can be of use. Maybe the non ripped side is the side you need. I'll have to check when I'm home. Tried putting my headlight overlay on have up after screwing it up. Haven't been game with others lol

207 de 19-08-2012 11:23 AM

Craig, Im slow on the uptake but your car has come a long way! It looks great and would go nicely too!

I went through a similar process with my first WRX, was always a bit meh with the power and torque figs, I think i did all bolt-ons but still a TMIC and was getting about 220-240hp. Fail :-/ Ended up pretty much blowing the 205 and got a rebult 207 spec C motor with FMIC and 310hp. Then I blew my 5 speed. hehe, fitted a 6 speed and decided to keep the internal wastegate on my turbo permanently shut which got around 325hp. The car was FUN. Then I wrote it off a couple of months later. I kept all recipts for that car. $52k worth. :-)

Got a 05 sti with the insurance monies, spent a further $16k on that and have pretty much the same performance.

Its great fun, but can be painful modding. I think you went for rims? Seems a TD05-20G should go nicely in the trolley.

TROLLEY 19-08-2012 05:50 PM

No rims, no turbo :(
(black rims in display pic is just a Photo-chop)

I went to buy rims but Wei (Vision-R) had run out of Rota DPT's in flat black. Only had Gloss Black which I didn't like so I put my tax return to a block of land which I have just bought. The fiancee and I will now be building so there'll be no td05 or rims for quite some time unfortunately.
