Nice work mate! Numbers are numbers, as long as the drive is good, enjoy it!!

fatboy 09-09-2011 07:47 AM

Hi Craig,

No one seems to agree with me but you are not the first one to have a betty tuned at ASG and not be happy, mine is crap, yes i said it, CRAP!

Same thing happened to me in that no-one told me what the go was and i was chucked the keys andshoved out the door only to find that it had a bit of go up top and nothing below 4200 rpm (very strange for a 2.5L)

I phone then to talk about it and got blown off, i won't ever be going back there so i feel like i can tell you the truth!

My advice to you is take it elsewhere!

Kato 09-09-2011 08:00 AM

That lag is ridiculous for a TD04 on a 2.5L! The peak numbers are sound, but the idea of a TD04 is to punch it up nice and early.

I wouldn't worry about a boost figure as such. Let the tuner find the best combination of boost, fuel, timing etc etc etc. I would get a figure of boost and a copy of your baseline dyno result. Figures are great for wanking over on a forum, but you should use a dyno to look at where you are making gains.

i.e. this is off my evo. As you can see the baseline result was farked! (explains my lack of love for the car for a long time).

It also lets you see if the tune is worthwhile. I.e. you don't want to smash in 2 bar for a 10hp gain.

Hope you get it sorted.

jEstEr? 09-09-2011 08:02 AM

Amusing thread, a+, would giggle again
*wrapping the roof in satin or matt black vinyl
*bonnet respray (worst stone chips EVAR)
*upgrading the intercooler (MY08 sti preferably)
*lowering the c#nt 25mm (either coilovers or lowered springs + centre roll kit)
*front and rear sways, end links, etc.
*STi rear spoiler
*rims
My Opinion - wrapping looks a little gay, unless you get it done by a pro. Should look ok in flat black though instead of the gay fake cf everyone loves versus the red body

my08 STI intercooler won't fit without changing the inlet manifold and turbo - i did the swap to my shitter, its not simple

American Dave 09-09-2011 08:04 AM

Hi Craig
Firstly good work with the driveway thread and mods. Its taken you awhile but no doubt you feel like you have a new car again.

With regards to the tune I think you might want to establish a few things up front with Sean. For me these things are:

1. What boost levels am I comfortable with running and what are you looking to achieve with the tune ? ie...I want a torque monster that peaks early at the expense of some hp.
2. Can I be here when you do the dyno power runs?
3. Can you go for a drive with me in the newly tuned car?

As far as the TBE does yours just have one muffler?

Your VF52 should get you to 300 hp with the right supporting mods and tune.
Sean will be tuning my VF52 next Thursday so I am very interested your tune.

jEstEr? 09-09-2011 08:08 AM

2 bar, like a boss. kgo

mitchwnz 09-09-2011 08:24 AM

Wow, thats a completely different result to mine... ?? I suppose my tiny stock snail has ZERO Lag.

ImPreSiV 09-09-2011 08:34 AM
That lag is ridiculous for a TD04 on a 2.5L! The peak numbers are sound, but the idea of a TD04 is to punch it up nice and early.
TD04 has been taken off John :P VF52 is on

Kato 09-09-2011 09:03 AM

I read it that the TD04 was still on?

If this is with a VF52, that's crap. 50hp is missing somewhere!

American Dave 09-09-2011 09:10 AM

still has stock fuel pump, intake, boost solenoid, wastegate

Kato 09-09-2011 09:24 AM

Hmm, GH's are a different beast it seems!

TROLLEY 09-09-2011 10:54 AM
No one seems to agree with me but you are not the first one to have a betty tuned at ASG and not be happy
I'm happy with the tune as it is still a day/night difference in regards to the drive. Like Kato, I just feel as though it's falling short of where it should be. I'm not sure of any differences between the engines in the 08's and 09/10 apart from the turbo. Maybe there are some small difference(s) we're not aware of and it's holding our 08's back?

edit: just read that the 09+ has a larger intercooler core

Maybe Sean didn't get to spend as much time as normal on it as he was leaving early that day? They looked damn busy and no doubt the turbo swap-over ate into the day. I'll have a chat to him on Monday and see what he says.

I didn't get much of a chance to talk to Sean in the morning as my taxi had arrived quicker than expected and I was pushing shit uphill to get to work on time. I left him with a copy of Mike_09's dyno printout with the figures of 267hp / 425nm and said if you can get anywhere near that I'd be happy. Most probably a partial fail on my behalf for not going into enough detail or questioning in the morning.
As far as the TBE does yours just have one muffler?
Yep, cat, no resonator, single muffler at the back.

If Sean agrees that the numbers could be pushed further North, I'll book it in for 3-4 weeks time when I'm on school holidays so that I'll be available if he lets me in on the tune. Good suggestion, cheers.
still has stock fuel pump, intake, boost solenoid, wastegate
I previously enquired about fuel pump and solenoid and was told they wouldn't be necessary. I might just get them anyway and go for a retune as they're not expensive items. I bought a silicone pipe to replace the turbo intake pipe but I wasn't confident in the seal of the fittings and said to Sean if he agreed with my worries to leave it off. Last thing I want to do is go looking for vacuum leaks under the intake. He must have agreed, as he didn't bother using it.

TROLLEY 12-09-2011 09:01 AM

Spoke To Sean

Just called Sean. He was sure he put around 16psi into the tune and did notice that the numbers were down compared to the dyno sheet I gave him of a similar setup. He couldn't explain why, other than to say that all cars are individual (maybe I just have a c#nt of a car?). I asked if he encountered any restrictions in regards to fueling (eg. pump or injectors) but he said definitely not.

I'll book it in for a few weeks time and he said he'll run it up and double check everything.

Kato 12-09-2011 09:07 AM

Good stuff!

TROLLEY 12-09-2011 09:18 AM

Before the next tune I might swap my intercooler over for rick's old 2010 TMIC as it will be cheap and something I can do myself. That is the only thing I can think of that is slightly different (so I've read). Might pm one of our Subaru employees to double check the part numbers to be sure first.

Kato 12-09-2011 09:21 AM

Do you have the plastic manifold?

I believe it is a right pain in the ass modification. Speak to Jester as he has done it I think.

BALISTC 12-09-2011 09:25 AM

Craig, APPARENTLY the 09+ TMIC flows about 10-15% better than the old one, but I personally don't believe its going to make such a big difference in your application.

If its little to no cost though, it should just bolt straight in with no modifications.. so it can't hurt.

Kato 12-09-2011 09:34 AM

Just remembered rick's car is wrx not sti, so should be easier than wrx to sti conversion.

TROLLEY 12-09-2011 10:15 AM
If its little to no cost though, it should just bolt straight in with no modifications.. so it can't hurt.
I'm pretty sure it's a case of a straight swap and I agree, I can't see it making a great deal of difference but curiosity is saying give it a go since it'll be an inexpensive exercise.

I just had another thought - perhaps the headers and up-pipe in the 09+ were also revised and flow a touch better too?

BALISTC 12-09-2011 12:36 PM

Nope, same same.

ECU tune, cooler and turbo were only differences from 08 to 09+

"Welcome back to the ESSS SEEE GEEE"
[/benaud]

Update time! A couple of weeks ago new polyurethane side skirts and rear spats were installed to match the front lip (courtesy of N1-Auto). Soon after, Hella Supertones were chucked in and new plates ordered. Picked up the plates today and went for a short drive for a qick snap to show the new shit.

A special thank you to Steph (SJT) for finding the appropriate page for ordering the WRC plates. I couldn't for the life of me find them, but they were hiding in the sports plates section of the transport site. I owe you a 6 pack of something Steph!

There will be a further update later in the week in regards to the next round of work to done on the car :D

TheDoctor 05-12-2011 10:21 PM

Looks stunning mate.

ImPreSiV 05-12-2011 10:22 PM

just needs black wheels and more offset and it would change the look of the car a sh!t load!

otherwise, looking good! Love the side skirt under kit!

kid 05-12-2011 11:02 PM

Not sure if it's some kind of camera wizardry, but you managed to make the MY08 look good....

Congrats man and yeah some ce28s or DPTs in a dark colour would really transform this car.....

I see from another thread tonight that you possess some mad photoshop skills so you could do a mock up to see how awesome it would look.

mitchwnz 05-12-2011 11:02 PM

Fuck yes!!! Car looks awesome dude!!

teejay 05-12-2011 11:13 PM

It is begging for wheels.

Cheers for the kind words kid =)
Another snap.

teejay: this shot shows that the car is also begging for a MY08 STi spoiler

macmillionare 05-12-2011 11:53 PM

There is potential here for the nicest betty around, we'll have to wait and see how things pan out! Looks porn with the subtle plastics.:D

Sethi3 06-12-2011 07:59 AM

Agreed with the black rims, They'll be awesome.

And the car looks so bloody clean and shiny!

waaaah G Force are actually my preference in the Rota range!
Wonder if I can stretch 205's on 8" rims?

Will pm mate :)

Best WRX in red I have seen for along time :)

ImPreSiV 06-12-2011 10:21 AM

you need wider than 8" and better offset Craig! get the wheels Bryno has, 18 x 9 +35... winning :)

They work that way due to the Sti gaurds. Not sure how the skinny stock ones would take those wheels.

I think they would look OK in white, but I believe black rims really need the pumped guards.

Jimmy S 06-12-2011 11:21 AM

+ 1 on crying out for rims... Gunmetal or black FTW on the red...

I'll put in another vote for Rota DPT 18 x 9.5's... or the GForce would look good as well prolly!
