LOL, there gets a point where savings + loan = maximum budget. When you have a mortgage, two pets, a partner and bills to pay you'll understand :P

I'm sure you could work out close to what I spent on the engine + labour + extras + shipping to and fro. The budget wasn't going to stretch another 6-7k.

I drove around for a year or 2 on my 5spd after my engine rebuild before i then did a driveline swap. It was fine. Still have the 5spd sitting in the garage, in perfect working order.

5spds dont just mysteriously brake on high power subarus. They brake when fuckheads who cant drive try and fast N furious thier way through the gears. Usualy 1 to 2 or 2 to 3.

I suggest trolley get a sti box eventually, but not because his 5 spd is grenade, but so he can get the power down better with the better diff setup. Added strength of the 6spd is just a bonus.

Even if it lasted 6 months, will still give you time to get some funds behind you so it's not another $6,000 on top of the build.

Need it to last 2 years at least, not 6 months. All "spare" funds now go towards wedding account and repayments for the loan required for half the engine.

I can't see why it wouldn't last for the time you need it to. I kept a five speed for over 5 years post engine build, and it is by no means a slouch.

Ah I see. Soft gear changes it is, could have bought several brand new WRX's with what our wedding cost.
